🚨🚨 At noon today, my doorbell rang, and three plainclothes police officers introduced themselves. "Mr. Abou Jahjah, we are here at the request of Dutch authorities, acting through Interpol, to request that you delete this tweet concerning complaints against IDF soldiers by the #March30Movement." I was taken aback. I asked for more details. They responded that they were not sure of the details; they were merely following orders received through Interpol. My children were questioning, "Daddy, why are the police here? What did you do, Daddy?" The neighbors peered out from their windows... Although the officers maintained professionalism, I sensed they too felt somewhat uncomfortable, indicating the awkwardness of the situation. I ponder who directed them to undertake such an action on a Sunday and in such a manner. This feels like intimidation; it's political. It's not illegal to file complaints and discuss them publicly. This incident speaks volumes about our current state of affairs. IDF soldiers from the Netherlands, Belgium, and other countries are involved in war crimes and genocide, boasting about their actions on social media, showing genocidal intent, and posing next to dead bodies and destroyed homes, including personal items of victims. Yet, the police show up at my door because I lead a movement that is legally filing complaints against these actions? The Dutch authorities are mistaken if they think they can intimidate me or the #March30Movement. If anything, this incident only strengthens our resolve. No tweets will be deleted. Our freedom of expression is not debatable. Our right to denounce attrocities even less. Our lawyers in many countries are preparing more complaints. We will communicate on all of them. Nothing can halt our momentum. Even if they target me, our movement is not reliant on just one individual; it is a collective effort, and more people are joining every day. We are resolute. I cannot remember the last time Indonesia used stronger language on a matter of global security: Foreign Minister Retno affirms ICJ jurisdiction to give Advisory Opinion. Rebuffs the US view that giving an Advisory Opinion would damage any ongoing peace effort: "...there is no viable peace process to be undermined. Israel has been consistently obstructing a negotiated Two-State solution...With such strong resistance from Israel to stop its colonial project and its “fait accompli" unilateral actions, no peace process will viably bring a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution. After all, negotiation with someone holding a gun against your head is not a negotiation at all." US actions such as vetoing ceasefire resolutions and opposing ICJ advisory opinion on Palestine (after rejecting South Africa's "genocide" filing) will stoke anti-American sentiment in Indonesia, the world's 4th largest nation, largest Muslim-majority nation, and otherwise friendly to US, key to US Indo-Pacific strategy. It has very good relations with US, including moves to create a comprehensive strategic partnership. Keep in mind these words come from the outgoing Indonesian govt. not looking for reelection, hence not mainly pandering to domestic Islamic voters. Indonesia is symptomatic of how isolated the US is in Global South now. It's more than over Iraq invasion or any other conflict in memory. On implications for world order, note that on Ukraine, most of Global South voted with the US on principle of territorial integrity, hence supporting int law & 'rules based order'; on Gaza-Palestine, majority of Global South upholds int law and 'rules-based order' against the US position. I work on racism - incl antisemitism & Islamophobia. Since 7/10, I've been in many discussions & find the rise in all, competition between them & divide/rule very painful - as is how the rise in antisemitism has been used to defend Israel & both used as cover for Islamophobia. 1/

We are currently seeing a huge rise in Islamophobia from the political & media establishment, as well as communal organisations - incl figures who attack Labour & the left for anti-zionism & Palestinian solidarity, & Muslims & migrants more generally - with no repercussions. 2/
