Sometimes with your kids you have to employ unique measures. We have 4 great kids. The most challenging is our youngest son. I had suspicion that if he was able to put on significant muscle, that would increase his testosterone which would level out his artsy fartsy weirdness. Since he cannot seem to lift weights without looking like he's being electrocuted, I brought him on as my primary as we built 4290 feet of fence, mostly of t-posts and treated round posts, in rugged and rocky soil. He hated me with a deep hatred for the first two weeks. Just withering glares. His personality doesn't lend itself to repetitive, accurate things, and this was hell. Nevertheless, after the first month of chainsawing and stump removal to clear the fence line, and then hundreds of t-posts pounded manually, he started realizing how much stronger he's getting. His friends started seeing huge muscular development and how ripped he is. And the girls noticed. My, did they notice. His posture straightened up. His confidence increased. Suddenly he's offering opinions, making counterpoints, and estimating needed supply and timelines with a manful energy. And now, when his doofus friends say or do doofus things (like steal money from their parents), he takes on the aura of "you don't seem like you've worked a day in your life", which has more effect on them then even their parents disappointment. His buddies are now looking at him as a big man worthy of counsel and respect. He thanked me 2 days ago and said he actually feels good seeing how improved the property is with his sheep fence up and numerous gates installed. You can just kill the boy to bring about the man, anon.

Name one other military on earth that destroys 6 aircraft and fights a ground battle inside a sovereign nation to recover one pilot. You can't. Because no other military confuses tactical sentimentality with strategic logic. Soldiers serve the mission. The mission doesn't serve the soldier. The US has now established that Iran can shoot down an F-15, then watch America spend $300M and expose Delta Force trying to prove it didn't happen. That's not military doctrine. That's politics with weapons. A military that cannot accept the risk of loss cannot win wars. The US hasn't won one since 1945.

I’m noticing a lot of foreigners who seem to not understand why we’d risk hundreds of lives, spend millions of dollars, and sacrifice several aircraft to rescue one guy. And the reason they don’t understand is also the reason people can’t be made American by a piece of paper.
