When a player kicks the ball that physical action is not instantaneous (time passes between 1st and last contact) This leaves a margin of error in distance terms of ~3cm. Therefore if VAR says you are off by 1cm, you could well actually be onside by 2cm.

@itvfootball I'm pulling my hair out every time Ange Postecoglu talks about VAR. He's unhappy about VAR re-refereeing a game. But isn't that the point to ensure the decisions are right & fair? He's arguing against a decision that is literally on the screen as being (marginally) offside. Argh!

@RCoat13 @BBCSport You really don’t get it do you. In a moment like this VAR is accurate to +/- ~3cm. Therefore if it says you are offside by 1cm, there is a chance you’re actually on by 2cm. So offside is not necessarily offside. Why’s it always the sofa fans who say ‘harsh but fair’, fuck off.
