The #IamAPHRC SISTARS Project (Transforming Institutions to Advance Women Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) team is today disseminating findings from Ghana and Kenya. Key findings from the study show that the facilitators and barriers to the progression of women leadership in STEM are; โœ… Sociocultural factors โ€“ work-life balance and demanding caregiving responsibilities โœ… Institutional factors โ€“ Gaps in the existence and implementation of policies and guidelines that support women's progression in the STEM sector โœ… Knowledge factors โ€“ Limited awareness of existing policies and guidelines on women in STEM leadership This event provides a valuable platform for reflecting on the findings, sharing insights, and deliberating on a way forward. The project is a transdisciplinary collaborative action research in Ghana and Kenya that seeks to promote women leaders in STEM institutions through understanding the nuances that inhibit their progress to leadership positions and co-designing and testing solutions with selected case study institutions. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @uonbi @UnivofGh @IDRC_CRDI @wiwas_kenya @kabariac @chumo_ivy @BlessingMberu @ndonyesarah @calecheru @judy_esthe27988 @CliffordSimiyu @DMdiarafa @amveyange @CKyobutungi

โ€œSISTARS have really been sisters to us.โ€ Thatโ€™s how Prof. Chisara put it. And it says everything. In a space where support often comes with conditions or silence, SISTARS showed up fully, genuinely, and ready to walk alongside the vision of M-in-the-STEM.

At our recent workshop at the University of Ghana, we came together with one goal: to reimagine what leadership in STEM can look like. Through the SISTARS Project, we are building a future where African women lead boldly in STEM #SISTARSProject #WomenInSTEM

Insights from working group discussions โ€œThe goal is not to lower the bar for gender mainstreaming and inclusivity. The goal should rather be to empower women to take up roles on a level playing groundโ€ #SISTARS #CapacityBuilding #womeninSTEM #Ghana

Let's congratulate our very own, Dr Leunita Asande Sumea for being adjudged the "Most Influential Female in Water Sanitation" at the held African Women Awards Ethiopia2023 Edition. It was under the theme "The role of businesses in propelling Africa's Social-Economic Renaissance"
