Well, yea.. I’ll agree with that, but somehow we gotta staff the scales more. Whether it means more state cooperation (yeah, right) or increased FMCSA personnel manning them.
I’ve been pulled in for an actual inspection twice in 4 years, and that was a level 3 both times. Most of the time they’re closed.
While I’m grateful for that, and know I have nothing to worry about, unless they’re pulled in, nobody will know that someone who failed the ELP was placed OOS for a year under this new law (assuming it passes, which I’m confident it will) - so they’ll just keep going.

The only other remedy for this, (and I’m going to be crucified by my fellow trucking brothers and sisters for this,) is to increase the FMCSA/CVSA budget, hire staff on the same level as ICE/DHS, and pull EVERY truck in, at EVERY weigh station, EVERY TIME they pass one.
Then you need to pass laws about extended transit times for freight, because we’re gonna be sitting at scalehouses more than we’re driving 🤣
Also make sure regular drivers are aware that the right lane leading to said scale houses will be jammed up forever..

Then, they aren’t subject to anything UNLESS they are brought in for an inspection, or pulled over and the OOS is discovered. For context, in the 4 years I’ve been driving, I’ve been pulled in for an inspection a whole TWO times. It’s a step in the right direction, but there needs to be language that effects an immediate revocation and confiscation of their CDL.

There are a shit ton of “Lease Purchase” drivers (legitimate ones) that are buying a truck from a carrier - the FMCSA has recieved guidance from a task force that LP is not beneficial to anyone but the company.
Sooooo, confiscate the trucks, and give them to LP drivers at a reduced cost :)

Obama admin. As a result of the ATA false narrative that there was a “driver shortage” - his DOJ issued guidance to no longer enforce ELP.
It allowed ATA member companies (megas primarily) to justify labor dumping and ridiculously low wages.
That memo of guidance was rescinded (finally) last year, but it’s still a shitshow to get them out.

Just got word that I need to be in Erie between 9-11 tomorrow morning. I’m still 200 miles from my drop.
That means I need to be on the road by 2am. And drive in NY state in the dark, then DH almost 400 miles to get loaded and PRAY I can get to parking in time..
What kills me is the fact that I despise running in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings.
Fortunately it’s 99% interstate, so I shouldn’t be in TOO big a pickle. I just hope Colonie is lit up so I can see street signs

I was honored to join Dalilah, her parents, and my colleagues at a @RepublicanStudy roundtable this morning highlighting the importance of safety on American roads.
Dalilah’s Law will honor her and other victims by requiring English Language proficiency requirements for CDL drivers.
Too many innocent American lives have been lost or forever changed at the hands of illegal aliens driving 80,000-pound commercial vehicles who can’t read the road signs. I’m happy to see Dalilah’s Law pass out of @TransportGOP and urge the House to pass it ASAP!
