Why Entry-Level UX Jobs Demand Previous Experience by @ptypeux smg.io/36JGaQY
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @Delta_CX And with that I think I'll wind down for the night. I'm in Munich to do my 1-day workshop tomorrow for non-UX roles. It'll be renamed for 2020, but here's some of the change I'm out there trying to create. I hope you'll join my efforts! Goodnight. deltacx.com/devops-icu/
English

@PtypeUX @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden I had a genuine interest in your definition of collaboration and design by committee. I was playing back what I thought you meant for more clarity.
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @Delta_CX "By committee" makes mistake of assuming we all have equal talent, skill, ability, training, experience... Other roles don't do this. Prod doesn't plan roadmaps b-c. Eng doesn't decide architecture b-c. It's just us & can send the msg that we can't do our jobs ourselves.
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @Delta_CX Take Lean UX book Kindle location 1781. They're calling it collab (and by Latin roots it is) but it goes beyond "working together" to be "by committee." Non-UX roles are doing my job with me. Everybody plans, undertakes, interprets, & reports on research, even if they suck at it.
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @Delta_CX youtube.com/watch?v=hA8Hbj… Live stream! The main diff b/w collab & "work by committee" would be that "by committee" is other roles trying to do my job with me. And them expecting an equal decision-making say in things I would expect to own and have final say over.

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden Just did a 43 min live stream on the topic. :) Not that you want to watch for that long. I stumble on my best answer around 20 min in. I'll try to sum up but it'll take a bunch of tweets, pls be patient. Thanks...
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden Did you mean, "Debbie, how do you define collaboration and design by committee?" Did you mean to ask me questions or did you mean to jump to assumptions and false choices? And remind me why we're doing this? Want to be on my live podcast? I hear Charles is a big fan.
English

@PtypeUX @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden So collaboration is when designers work with other designers? And design by committee is when people from other disciplines are involved in the design that are not designers?
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR Are you telling me that's what you think or giving me a false choice to see which I think? Because I would not define either "collaboration" or "design by committee" how you said. Both are incorrect definitions. If that's what you believe, we will just have to disagree.
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR Isn't that what we've been doing here? Publicly debating semantics? I prefer human speech over 240 char, so let me know if you change your mind. Thanks and see ya around! - Debbie
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR We are not facilitators or crossing guards. We are specialists and pros who should be doing our own work. Collaborating (as I'd define it). Lots to say here. Too much to tweet and I really don't do Twitter. Can't we just talk? How about you on my live podcast?
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR If that's your definition of collaboration, I completely agree, and would add more to that but no room on Twitter. But that's not what the Lean UX book says or suggests. They say "collaboration" but describe something very different.
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR I have to run but if you'd like to discuss this on one of my live (public) video podcasts, let's schedule that. I don't know who you are but it sounds like you'd make a great guest. BTW who are you? LinkedIn URL?
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR If you believe the book isn't promoting planning, research, architecture, design, testing, interpretation and more "by committee" (my quotes), then I would ask if YOU read the second edition of the book. Not the first. The second.
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR Which quote wasn't in the book? That I put "design by committee" in quotes to designate it as a phrase? There are many quotes from Lean UX that show it's d-by-c even if they're claiming it's not. Don't be thrown off because I sometimes put "d-by-c" in quotes to mark a phrase.
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR Let me guess, you also believe Facebook is protecting your privacy and information because they SAY they are. Lean UX is everything by committee. Research, design, testing, interpretation, etc. They can say it's not but they're not fooling most people. So we disagree.
English

@davecunningham @DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden Would love to answer but I think that's more than a tweet. I also don't say "design by collaboration." There's collaborating with our CX and UX mates. And there's collaboration with other roles. And there are "design by committee" approaches no matter what they call themselves.
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden @PtypeUX It would be good to know how @Delta_CX differentiates "design by committee" and "design by collaboration"?
English

@DurableStretch @RealUXMCR @jboogie @Delta_CX @jseiden It does. It might not use that phrase but when you need teammates involved in everything you plan, undertake, and interpret, that's design by committee.
