@Austinescapee Talk about a bonus with that job. I would have loved to learn those ways. The swamp can appear disorienting after a hurricane. I did wonder how they navigated. Now it’s gps coordinates and maybe less arguments over boundary lines but dumbs you down so you rely on it.

Great pics! Back in the 80’s I would do title packets for oil companies (or their lawyers) to try to tie down exact locations, meets and bounds for leasing/drilling. The most interesting was in Iberville Parish, on the W side of the Mississippi River, S of Baton Rouge. Before levees, pre-late 20s, that area had virgin cypress, and each year when it flooded, swampers would go in boats and mark the ones to cut, after which they’d float them out into the river to float them tied (mostly) together to the sawmills further S. Very dangerous. I interviewed a number of them and they knew land markings by particular drainage rivulets, certain trees, big rocks placed on corners, distance from the River, etc. They were fascinating and the stories were totally lit up.

That’s crazy, I catch marsh bass all year long and anything under 13” comes home with me. Friggin delicious white meat. Now the big ones are a mushy

I just got some disappointing news. Woke up to see two trucks on my property. Grabbed my .38 and rode down there on the Can-Am. The old lady who we bought our piece from hired some guys to clear cut 9 acres of her 99. They’re only leaving some young hardwoods. They have right-of-way access to the gate back there. So all that to the right will be stripped. 😭 Devenir folle -

Finally decided to be nosy. I figured they’d have them out before the chance of rain Tuesday but they have quite a bit to go. Looks like they harvested more than 9 acres. 😳

This is the right of way through our field. Two logging trucks got stuck today so it made a bit of a mess. Quite the harvest going on. About 10 loads a day. They’ll dress it up when they’re finished so no worries. Nice guys putting in work 🇺🇸💪🏻
