Boilermaker engineers don't quit; they find a way through. That's the philosophy Dave Rich (BSME '88), right, president of Daikin-TMI, took away from his Purdue Engineering education. “I learned that something difficult is good. My motto is, ‘Come up to a wall and figure out how to get over, under or around it.’ Going through engineering school, I feel like I had four years of walls and figured out how to get by them.” Now, Dave is giving back to make sure the next generation is just as prepared. He volunteers as a Malott Innovation Awards judge, sharing 40 years of real-world business insight with students, and is working to endow a program to help students tackle the challenges ahead. His message to fellow alumni? "If you have the means to give something back to the college that gave you the tools to be successful, you should do it." The next generation of engineers is already making an impact, and your donation makes it possible. Sylvia Chan, left, is a senior who embodies what a scholarship unlocks. With financial support from Purdue Engineering, Sylvia has poured herself into coursework, research, clubs and even study abroad, all while pursuing a 4+1 master's degree and minors in mathematics and global engineering studies. This semester, Sylvia and her senior design team are building an interactive water cycle display for Imagination Station in Lafayette, using a creative BB raindrop concept to spark curiosity in the next generation of scientists and engineers.
