Peter Lynch Inquest: Grandfather Jailed by Starmer for Holding a Placard Dies in Prison Doncaster. A pre-inquest review has opened into the death of Peter Lynch, a 61-year-old grandfather imprisoned for peacefully protesting. Peter was handed a two-year-eight-month sentence for “violent disorder” after holding a placard outside a Rotherham asylum hotel in August 2024, highlighting government corruption, grooming scandals, and immigration failures. Despite poor health, diabetes, angina, and a recent heart attack he was locked up under Keir Starmer’s government. He was found hanged in HMP Moorland on 19 October 2024, just months into his term, hours after receiving what he believed was an unfair prison punishment notice. Critics call Peter a political prisoner crushed by two-tier policing. His family demands answers on mental health failures and the brutal sentencing of working class voices. My aim in court was to reclaim power for the elected MPs, and therefore the people, from the unelected bureaucrats - I failed. We now have the scandalous situation in which unqualified and unelected civil servants can wield parliamentary privilege to literally place themselves above the law. They now hold a special legal status which means they cannot be challenged in court - positioned even higher than MPs for whom the system was actually designed. Parliamentary privilege, an ancient right, exists so that MPs can speak without fear in the chamber, it does not exist to give faceless bureaucrats legal immunity. I wanted to challenge the system in an open and fair court, with ruthless transparency so that the British people could finally see the truth. Our judiciary has not allowed that to happen, enabling unelected civil servants to weaponise parliamentary privilege, designed for MPs, to entirely avoid scrutiny and fair legal challenge. Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Leader of the House of Commons, previously commented on the case. “Thus if Lowe wins, he will not have harmed Parliament, but defended it. For through cowardice we – and I was an MP at the time – abdicated our privileged responsibility and gave it to unelected boffins, who are not so much better than elected politicians after all, but much harder to eject.” A fair summary, yet here we are. I have come to the brutal conclusion that the only way to restore Britain is to win the next general election. That is our last available route out. Councillor @John_EdwardsUK is being silenced and punished for telling the truth about a four-star hotel being used to house Afghan migrants by Bracknell Forest Council. He began asking questions about the impact of the scheme on local residents. John felt it was important to highlight that, under the Afghan resettlement scheme, migrants were being housed in a four-star hotel, provided with in-house healthcare, and given move-in support to help them secure private rental properties, with deposits and upfront rent paid — all while thousands of Bracknell residents, including veterans and their families, have been waiting years for housing. All of this information was already in the public domain, but the council did not like John speaking out. Rather than answer his questions, complaints were made against him by a Lib Dem councillor and other council staff who chose to remain anonymous. They launched an investigation into John that lasted nearly a year and cost taxpayers £15,000. Evidence was withheld from him, his accusers were granted anonymity, and fellow councillors accused him of racism, claimed he had been reported to the police, and one even compared him to the murderer of the late MP Jo Cox. An independent investigator cleared John of all charges — but the council was not willing to stop there. It has now introduced a new, narrow charge, claiming John brought his role into “disrepute” simply for telling the truth. John is now facing a hearing before the same councillors who branded him racist and xenophobic and previously tried to silence him. The FSU is proud to have supported John throughout. He now needs your help to fund his defence, because if the council succeeds, it will create a blueprint for other councils to silence elected representatives and set a precedent whereby unelected civil servants can decide which policies may be scrutinised and what information the public is allowed to hear. The council is using taxpayer money to fund its action against him — in effect, to silence a political opponent.
