Moody's 2026 outlook note on private credit says private credit is increasingly turning to financing capital-intensive sectors like AI data centers and fiber networks. Also that securtization is playing a big role here (notable because securitization fell out of favor post 2008, but is now having a major revival via private credit). In essence, private credit is becoming a central engine behind the renewed expansion of securitization by acting as both an originator and a structurer of asset-backed risk outside the traditional banking system.

Carney should call Trump's bluff on this and change nothing about his plans. Trump's tariffs are polling dismally, they are likely to be ruled illegal by SCOTUS, and Trump only has a few months in office before he is functionally a lame duck. A trade deal with China would last a lot longer than the Trump administration. The world needs one (1) leader who will not cave to Trump, thus setting the precedent, and Carney and Sheinbaum are best positioned to be the ones to do it.
