@droid1963 @TheAliceSmith I’m talking about putting a small surtax on every single trade made in the market. And anytime someone uses assets to borrow against a surtax on that too. Obviously there has to be limits/exceptions. Considering the richest 10% own 90% of the stocks they can afford it.

@droid1963 @TheAliceSmith I’m not advocating for a socialist system. We should just tax assets more than income and stop all the loopholes. Also a small surcharge on all stock trades and dividends as a way to collect revenue for safety net programs and education isn’t a bad idea either.

I love subsidizing the retirements of all the rich boomers while I ration food so I don’t go into credit card debt to eat.

My father raised 5 kids. He did not have "extra" money to pay for our college educations. If we wanted to go, it was on our dime. He always felt that if we paid for something ourselves, we would appreciate it more. He never bought any of us a car, and if we wanted to drive his, we had to pay our share of the insurance. If he were still alive, and was asked to contribute to these retirement plans for kids...he would laugh in your face.

@robprogressive The top .01 % like Musk/Bezos take loans against their assets and don’t pay any taxes on it. They use accountants, shell companies and depreciation to basically nullify their tax liabilities. High wage W2 income employees are absolutely getting over taxed. Tax assets not income.

@RepDavid What’s sad is that there are sooooo many boomers collecting SS that don’t even need it. Like my old boss he collects SS, GE pension, and pays himself $25k a month but paying for health insurance or benefits for his 2 employees was “too expensive” 🙄 but a $5k flame thrower isn’t

@GrahamStephan It’s either a wealth tax or a surcharge on loans against assets. With the tax code now the rich use the buy, borrow, die tactic. And their children inherit inflated assets and govt gets $0. Meanwhile teachers and nurses pay 20-30% taxes on their income. Time to end the loopholes

Senator Elizabeth Warren and more than four dozen Democratic lawmakers are renewing their push for a federal wealth tax aimed at ultra-high-net-worth households, reintroducing legislation that would apply annual levies to fortunes above $50 million. The proposal, the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act of 2026, would impose a 2% annual tax on the net worth of households and trusts over $50 million, plus an additional 1% surtax on net worth above $1 billion, for a 3% top rate on billionaire wealth. The bill also includes a proposed 40% “exit tax” on people worth more than $50 million who renounce US citizenship, along with new IRS funding and other enforcement measures.
