It was looking a little spooky for a bit in October with some of the stories coming out of China.
There was no point in the news cycle where I or anyone particularly close to me thought they were in any actual danger (from the virus).

I strongly believe that we’re dealing with something like collective shock at the trauma of being faced with “this might kill almost everyone, we don’t actually know yet” for a while during COVID and we haven’t really healed from that or processed it yet—massive psychic damage

I am fully convinced 2019 was the last normal year we ever had. Ever since then, it feels like the simulation broke. Everyone is constantly anxious, time moves both way too fast and barely at all, and nothing actually feels real anymore. I couldn't help but notice that a core message of the movie is "the person you think you fell in love with might turn evil with zero warning signs." If you internalized that message, you'd end up with an extremely paranoid approach to relationships.

Frozen was not just a bad movie, it’s actively a bad story for children. It perverts and twists romantic love by leading children to believe sisterly love can replace it (true love’s kiss is Elsa kissing her sister rather than a Prince kissing the Princess). It perverts and twists the Snow Queen fairy tale in which a sister rescues a brother FROM the evil snow queen in order to begin the era of “the villain isn’t evil she’s just misunderstood”. It mocks the love at first sight romance of all fairy tales (that end in marriage) in order to justify the five year long situationships that the modern west thinks is healthy somehow. It exonerates a character for being completely selfish and petulant. Just a ridiculous, stupid movie I won’t show my kids.

it takes a maybe 15 minutes to fold laundry, or i can take my laundry to a laundromat and get it washed and folded for $1.50/lb
it's just not a big enough chore to justify an expensive purchase like a robot!

The discussion about the Monty Hall problem yesterday reminded me of another time when Marilyn caught grief from a lot of people. She said that for families with only two children, the odds of both children being the same sex was 2/3. People yelled at her, called her stupid, etc., so Marilyn asked her large readership to respond if they were either one of a two sibling family or had only two children themselves, reporting the sexes of the pairs. Many thousands of responses latter and the numbers were roughly 65%-66% (I can't remember exactly because it's been a long time). Some people were stunned by the numbers, still thinking that it should be a 50-50 split. It should not and here's why:
Thing of the possible combinations of two children:
1) Two boys
2) Two girls
3) Boy and girl*
4) Girl and a boy*
You will note that groups 3 and 4 are the same combination: two children of the opposite sex. So there are really only three combinations:
1)Two boys
2) Two girls
3) One boy and one girl
Two out of the three possible combinations are same sex siblings.

Okay let's discuss why Krispy Kreme does this:
1) obviously, they miscalculated how many donuts to make that day. They don't WANT to waste the food. Since you can't predict your customers, sometimes you will have too much food.
2) Because they're a business, they can't just hand out the donuts for free at day's end, or they won't be able to sell them.
3) So the solution is "give them to charity". The problem here is that the litigious nature of modern America means that they will absolutely be sued when some moron chokes on a pecan chunk. It's not worth the risk.
4) The next step is to argue "The law needs to hold Krispy Kreme guiltless if they give away their extra food." That all sounds fine and well, BUT I guarantee that the city will have a whole list of rules a food donation has to follow to be immune from lawsuits. And Krispy Kreme has clueless teenagers throwing out the donuts, so they will absolutely fail to follow all the rules.
5) the only way this could readily work in the USA without being crushed under the burden of bureaucracy or lawsuits would be if each individual Krispy Kreme had a specific charity who came by at night to pick up the extra donuts. People they knew and trusted.
Get rid of the lawyers and allow for common sense and that food can be donated lightning fast.

France made this wastefulness illegal cause it’s cruel and only causes more waste issues. Any food market or restaurant over 400 square meters has to donate all their good unsold food to charities and are fined if they do anything like this. That law should be applied everywhere

Men don't complain about mansplaining because men are active listeners.
If a man is listening to you explain something he already knows he will:
Nod along.
Finish your sentences.
Say "yeah I know" or rephrase what you are explaining in a way that shows understanding.
You can then stop explaining the parts he already knows and can get to the point if your interaction.
If a woman is listening to you explain something she already knows she will:
Stare blankly.
Provide no feedback while looking baffled.
Wait till you have fully finished and then say: 'I already knew that.'
At that point you can maybe proceed with a shared understanding... But then you have to wonder if she actually does get it or if she just doesn't like being told things.
