Mamdani found time to rage against Israel's leader, but no plan for New Yorkers Zohran Mamdani is exactly who the Jewish community warned he was. This week, New York City's Mayor sat down and recorded a polished two-minute video for one purpose: to brand Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "a war criminal" and "the architect of a horrific genocide," and to declare the elected leader of the Jewish state unwelcome in New York City, home to the largest population of Jewish Americans. Listen closely to what the Mayor says, and notice what he, notably, does not say. He never names Hamas, the terrorists who started the war on October 7th. He never mentions the innocent hostages that were taken, the women who were raped, or the children who were butchered. He launders casualty figures provided by a terrorist organization, which count dead Hamas fighters as murdered civilians. The whole production is Hamas propaganda with a City Hall seal, and Mamdani knows precisely what he is doing. The Mayor may have no authority on this issue, but he does have an enormous megaphone, and aiming it at the Jewish state in this sordid way is dangerous. Here is the part his defenders cannot explain. We were told, endlessly, that Mamdani was "laser-focused" on affordability and that he had no real interest in foreign policy. That the so-called fixation on Israel was a smear invented by his critics. Yet before New Yorkers can afford their rents, before they feel safe on the subways, before the schools improve, before the streets get cleaner or the buses are free, the Mayor found the time, the crew, and the passion to build a phony case against the Prime Minister of Israel. His sharpest ire has tens of million views, and all of it reserved for the one democracy in the Middle East. That is not a man distracted from his agenda. That is his agenda. And where are the Democrat leaders? Where is House Democratic Leader @hakeemjeffries? Where is Senate Democratic Leader @SenSchumer, the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in American history, who represents the largest Jewish community outside of Israel? Both men are from New York. Both watched their party's most prominent new mayor call for the arrest of the leader of the Jewish state, and both have said nothing. As has become commonplace, the response from the top of the Democratic Party was silence. That silence tells every Jewish American exactly where they rank. When the mayor of the nation's largest city launders terrorist propaganda and demands the arrest of an American ally, the leaders who claim to speak for that city and that community owe their constituents more than a shrug. Mamdani has told us who he is. The only remaining question is whether Jeffries, Schumer, and the rest of the Democratic Party will keep pretending they didn't hear him. Their priorities are not our priorities, and their pathetic silence makes that plainer by the day.
