Hard coaching is under attack! I appreciate all the coaches that poured into me and helped me develop into a better man. Sometimes that came with tough love. Young people today need real old school coaching, not cheerleading

John Harbaugh shares one of the best definitions of failure and resilience. "The only failure in life is not getting back up. When you get knocked down and stay down then you're a failure. But you're never a failure if you get back up." "The only person who can make you quit is yourself." Resilience is choosing to persist.

Coach Cal’s right — administration matters. But at the high school level, it takes more than that. You need administration that believes in you, coaches/players that are all in, parents that get involved in program, and a community that doesn’t just cheer on Friday nights… but financially supports the program too. Great high school programs aren’t built by one person. They’re built when everybody is invested — with their time, their trust, and their resources. If everybody isn’t rowing the boat in the same direction, don’t complain when the whole thing ends up spinning in circles.

Winston Churchill was right when he said: “Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.”

Friday thoughts! Thank you to all the coaches that had a profound impact on my life. I had some great ones, from junior high through junior college.

Anyone can coach for now. Real leaders coach for forever. The scoreboard fades—character doesn’t. Tough decisions today create real wins tomorrow.

As an AD, I hear the term “their turn” or “their position,” and I remind people that everything in life is rented. If you don’t show up every day and produce, someone will take “your” spot. That’s true in sports and in life.

Players with bad attitudes often gravitate toward others with bad attitudes because they love to remind each other why it's everyone else's fault. Don’t be a cancer. Be a great teammate.
