Semaglutide Benefits in People With Obesity & Knee Osteoarthritis🦵 1️⃣ Knee osteoarthritis is the most common form, causing chronic pain, reduced mobility, disability, & lower quality of life🦵. 2️⃣ Obesity is a major risk factor for knee osteoarthritis, due to increased joint stress, metabolic issues, & inflammation . 3️⃣ In the STEP 9 trial, 407 participants with obesity & knee osteoarthritis pain were randomly assigned to receive 2.4-mg semaglutide 💉or placebo, alongside lifestyle changes🏃♂️🍎, to reduce weight and pain🦵. 4️⃣ The results showed a mean body weight change of −13.7% with semaglutide 💉vs −3.2% with placebo, & a mean WOMAC pain score change of −41.7 points with semaglutide🦵vs −27.5 points with placebo. 5️⃣ The trial didn’t explore semaglutide’s mechanism, but weight loss likely reduces knee stress. GLP-1 agonists may also have anti-inflammatory & joint-protective effects. Conclusion: This trial showed that semaglutide 💉 reduced knee osteoarthritis pain🦵in people with obesity. It supports using 2.4 mg once-weekly for weight management & pain relief. @NutritionMadeS3 @theproof @DrNadolsky @DrKarlNadolsky @drmatthewnagra Study Link: nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
