@BudHolly411 @_InfoGram_ The foreign airbases are not there to protect foreign countries. They're there to project American power, and foreign countries LET you use them. Go ahead and withdraw. You'll find out what they were there for when they're gone and you can't get them back.

@_InfoGram_ She refused to allow the US access to its own air bases in Italy —after 80 yrs of relying on America to protect Italy & Europe from Soviet/ Russian aggression !! Iran had acquired missiles with 2,500 mile range which put all Europe as a target. She should thank Trump, but No!!

If capitalism truly rewarded skill or intelligence, the richest people would be neurosurgeons, engineers, and scientists. If it rewarded talent, it would be artists, writers, and creators. If it rewarded hard work, it would be cleaners, laborers, and service workers. But it’s none of them.

Pug

@avidseries Had a good friend in college who was Italian with an extremely Italian name and skin so pale and hair so blond, if it hadn't been for his grey-blue eyes, you'd have thought he was albino.

I had a class in college in which a rather pale blond blue-eyed woman sat next to me. I noticed she spoke with an accent. I asked her where she was from. She said, "Italy." Not knowing any better, I said, "You don't look Italian." "What do you mean?" she asked. "In my experience, Italian-Americans all seem to be dark-haired." She looked at me, and with an impatient tone said, "No, those aren't Italians. They're Sicilians. I'm Italian." (She was from Lombardy.)

@zahei13 @dmweisberger @RobertKennedyJr I've lived in both America, and around Europe, and though Americans do poison themselves to an extent, the (much) greater problem they have that Europe (and especially Italy) does not is specific growing environments with short growing seasons separated by huge distances.

I just spent 2 incredible weeks in Italy and it is so frustrating to come back to the U.S… How is it possible @RobertKennedyJr that the Italian food supply is so vastly superior. I literally ate bread at every meal, dessert multiple times per day, and generally ate way more than I do in the U.S. Not once did I have acid reflux. Not one headache, no digestive problems, and I didn’t gain any weight. If I ate the same way in the U.S. (I used to at times) I would have gone through a full bottle of Tums and Advil just to get through the day… WHY does the U.S. allow glyphosate in wheat, high fructose corn syrup in food and who knows what in our milk products? The difference in quality of life in Italy vs the U.S. is staggering from their common sense (anti corporate) food regulation. WHY aren’t more people upset about this? The U.S. is the richest country in the world and we eat like one of the poorest.

@VolodyaTretyak It's the European way. I'll feel good about Ukraine joining the EU when Transcarpathian villages look like the bi-cultural, bi-lingual Hungarian/Swabian village I made my home in.

Maybe it's not good to start a new page of bilateral relations by blaming Ukraine for made-up issues…
Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek)@magyarpeterMP

I am initiating consultations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in early June in Transcarpathia. I received Zoltán Babják, Mayor of Berehove, in my office, who briefed me on the situation of Hungarians in Transcarpathia and the horrors of the war. We agreed that it is in the interest of Hungarians living in Transcarpathia to place Hungarian–Ukrainian relations on new foundations. Based on the above, I am initiating a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in early June, symbolically in Berehove, a Hungarian-majority town. The aim of the meeting is to improve the situation of Hungarians in Transcarpathia and to support their ability to remain in their homeland. The time has come for Ukraine to put an end to the restrictions that have been in place for more than a decade, and to ensure that Hungarians in Transcarpathia regain all their cultural, linguistic, administrative, and higher education rights, so that they can once again become equal and respected citizens of Ukraine. This would also help ensure that, once the war has ended, as many Hungarians from Transcarpathia as possible can return to their homeland. If we can resolve these issues, we can certainly open a new chapter in Hungarian–Ukrainian bilateral relations. The concessions announced by the Ukrainian government in 2025 in the field of education are a step in the right direction, but they are not sufficient. Higher education in Ukraine remains monolingual, final examinations are conducted in Ukrainian, and there has been no meaningful change in other areas of official language use. It remains the case that official language use in Ukraine is strictly limited to a single language. In public administration, in the courts, and in official procedures, only Ukrainian may be used. The Hungarian minority cannot request official administration in their mother tongue, not even in settlements with a Hungarian majority. Restrictions also remain in public life and culture: Hungarian-language events and media outlets are allowed to operate, but under quotas and burdensome registration and formal requirements. In public appearances, officials — such as school principals or mayors — are still not free to use their mother tongue. From here, I encourage the Ukrainian leadership to take bold steps in these areas as well, in the direction of European values and genuine freedom and equality. I assured the Mayor that our compatriots in Transcarpathia can count on the full support of the mother country and of a TISZA government. I hope to soon be able to accept his kind invitation to Berehove. I am ready.

@Lubos89sl @VolodyaTretyak They already do. I lived 25 years in a Hungarian village with a large Swabish population. All administration, street signs, education, public services, etc. are in both languages. Local Swabish people have their own clubs, cultural events, etc. It's the European way.

@OrevaZSN I didn't want to work a job every day either, but I recognised that capitalism specifically allowed me not to. I used my one passion--language--to start a business--translation agency--from my home, and now I set my own schedule. Under communism, btw, you work a job every day.

@OrevaZSN Capitalism (+liberal democracy) is the only system where you have any chance at all of actually doing that. The system creates enough wealth all around that an artist might actually thrive without a patron, and sustennance can be had without recourse to backbreaking work.

Milton Friedman on 4 ways to spend money: 1) Your money on yourself (you’re careful about both cost and quality) 2) Your money on others (you care about cost, less about quality) 3) Someone else’s money on yourself (you care about quality, not cost) 4) Someone else’s money on others (you care about neither) The last one is how government spending works.
