Terrifying poll results indicate the level of undisclosed & unreported sexual assault and rape — sadly this is not a surprise. It is vital that we educate young people about healthy relationships & consent. thesun.co.uk/news/17594626/…

But most cases of this sort of police misconduct are never investigated by the @IOPC_Help. Instead, they are looked into by officers in the same force. This isn't good enough. Officers must be investigated by a separate, independent force in order to avoid a conflict of interest.

I called on Judiciary to tackle rape myths in rape trials in 2019’s London Rape Review so it’s welcome progress to see Judges’ directions being reviewed. The whole criminal justice system, from report to court, needs to shift focus onto offender’s behaviour, not the victims.
Charles Hymas@charleshymas

New restrictions to prevent rape victims’ sexual past being cross-examined in courts could be introduced, under plans being considered by the Law Commission to combat plunging conviction rates. telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/12/1…

While I'm disappointed the gov't rejected our amendment, which provided victims protections from undue invasions of privacy, I am pleased that @SusanBaroness recognised the issue + committed gov't to exploring statutory options. The only way to change practice is to legislate.

The privacy of the family courts is enabling abusers and silencing victims. It has taken courage and determination to get this story told. Thank you @louisetickle @DrProudman and of course, Kate Griffiths MP for her bravery. I wish this shocking case was unique. It sadly isn’t.
Louise Tickle@louisetickle

I'll be telling the full story of the way this powerful man abused his wife, and then how he tried to use the privacy of the family court to hide his actions, and prevent her from ever speaking out, in a podcast for @tortoise, out soon.

1 in 8 crimes in London over the past year were domestic abuse offences. 94,000+ cases. As a society, we can’t just ‘respond’ to violence against women. We must prevent it. That’s why I’m announcing £2.4m into programmes that aim to change the behaviour of perpetrators of abuse.

On the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women I want to thank all those women who risked their lives and livelihoods speaking up for women. Women who speak up face threat and vitriol but still they persist.

Today is #IDEVAW and marks the beginning of #16Days. Tragically, we have had too many reminders this year of why these events are needed. We all have our part of play in ending violence against women. I will be using my platform to demand action & I encourage you to do the same.

Apparently Parliament has written a rule which means I can’t take my well behaved, 3-month old, sleeping baby when I speak in chamber. (Still no rule on wearing masks btw). Mothers in the mother of all parliament are not to be seen or heard it seems…. #21stCenturyCalling

Yes, @Laura__Farris current law not right. Let’s work together with @attorneygeneral & @pritipatel to change it. Can’t let men get away with murder claiming “rough sex”.
Laura Farris@Laura__Farris

When Sam Pybus killed Sophie, he strangled her so hard “his hands hurt”. He got 4 years - which the Court of Appeal today declined to increase despite the ⁦@attorneygeneral⁩ ‘s best efforts Current laws are not strong enough. This needs to change bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

Lots of people not professionally involved in climate change may be finding it difficult to understand what is going on at COP26. Many of the people here have no idea either! So I have tried to summarise where we are with three days to go. Hope it may be helpful. 🧵/1
