CM of Tamil Nadu, Vijay, has ordered shutdown of 717 government-owned and operated TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) liquor stores located within 500 metres of places of worship, schools/colleges and bus stops, in order to limit access of liquor to youngsters and help contain addiction. Good initiative. However, restrictions already existed on liquor shops near such locations. The limit has now been expanded from the earlier 100 metres to 500 metres. Would those extra few hundred metres really deter people and meaningfully reduce alcohol abuse?

@sandipsabharwal When oil was averaging 75 dollars for last 4 years, petrol retail price was 100 to 110.( based on oil at 120 $).retail price remained same when avg price was 75 dollars. So now at 110 dollars ,with 20% ethonal blending where is the loss ???

The losses being made by OMCs are vastly exaggerated Since they have their own refineries a lot of the loss being reported is notional as they are not getting the advantage of high refining margins BPCL sells 80% of its own refined Petrol and Diesel IOCL 70% ( including Chennai Petroleum it's subsidiary it's nearly 100%) and HPCL 50% They are definately making losses but not as much as is being reported

I am always in favour of public transport, even in normal times But, India is not a public travel friendly country. You might take the metro, but the road to reach the metro station is full of hawkers, dug up roads, political banners. Mumbai is not a walkable city. Even though most people walk. We have not invested enough to make public transport attractive in normal times for us to rely on it during difficult times.

Also गणेशोत्सव is round the corner.Feels like a great time to begin a new job. I am overwhelmed with emotions today. I remember the time in 1994,when my mother had visited me at my very first office in #IncomeTaxDepartment at Mumbai,as a young Assistant Commissioner(I had joined service in October 1992 and we had a one-and-a-half year training before being posted in the field). My old room was just two doors away from where I am sitting today. Mummy saw my name board and quietly said-"Don't change your surname". I was surprised by her assertion coz I had never thought of her as a feminist. Today Mummy must be smiling at me from the heavens above ❤️🥲🙏 I left Mumbai in July/August 1996 to join my husband Gautam who had been posted to #Chennai. I cried a lot coz I missed the warm embrace of Bombay(the name change happened during my tenure here)-especially #Goregaon(East) where I lived for a few months in our IT hostel, #Bandra West-Mount Mary Road(where we lived post marriage),and #Churchgate where my old office #AaykarBhavan was located. Today I have come back to Aaykar Bhavan. Hope Mumbai remembers me and gives me the same warmth that she once gave me,31 years ago. @IRSAssociation
