People tend to conflate the desire to work for yourself with the ambition to do grandiose things. I’m not trying to become the next Zuckerberg. I just want to wake up whenever I want. Take mid-day naps. Spend time with my kids without asking for permission. That sort of thing.

Knowing about something through reading or hearing second-hand accounts is *so* different than knowing about something because you experienced or lived it directly. The latter is about 100 times more valuable.

The 3 Levels of Employees: Level 1 — You do what you are asked to do. Level 2 — Level 1 + You think ahead and solve problems before they happen. Level 3 — Level 2 + You proactively look for areas of opportunity and growth in the business, and figure out how to tap into them.

When people visit your startup, they should be surprised how few people you have. A visitor who walks around and is impressed by the magnitude of your operation is implicitly saying "Did it really take all these people to make that crappy product?"

“Follow your passion” is such a scam. But it’s not as catchy as “follow the thing you’re pretty good at and people need, and then work really hard at it for a long time, and then later realize you’ve built a passion for it"
