Manoj Madhusudhanan took a ₹1.86 crore home loan from ICICI Bank. As collateral, he handed over his original property documents. Every homebuyer does this. You have no choice. ICICI Bank sent those documents to their storage facility in Hyderabad via courier. Somewhere on that journey — Bangalore to Hyderabad — the documents vanished. Gone. Originals. Irreplaceable. When Manoj found out, ICICI Bank had one answer: it was the courier company's fault. Not ours. He went to the Banking Ombudsman. They told ICICI to publish a public notice about the loss and pay him ₹25,000 for the trouble. Twenty-five thousand rupees. For losing the original documents to a ₹1.86 crore property. Manoj sent a legal notice. ICICI denied any mistake. He went to the NCDRC. The apex consumer court looked at the facts. The bank had taken custody of the documents. The bank had chosen the courier. The bank could not hand that liability to a third party and walk away. ICICI Bank — India's second-largest private bank, ₹9 lakh crore in assets — was held liable. Ordered to obtain reconstructed certified copies, issue an indemnity bond, and pay ₹25 lakh in compensation. One loan. One lost file. One bank that blamed the courier. Save this — if your bank loses your original property documents, they cannot blame their courier agent. The documents were in their custody. The liability is theirs. File at your district consumer forum. The law is on your side. (Source: Manoj Madhusudhanan vs. ICICI Bank Ltd. | NCDRC | LiveLaw, September 2023)

@Ravikumar15354 @Technicalchart1 @ICICIBank @nsitharaman Few years ago some idiot gave my mobile no in his new Bank account with a reputed PSU Bank. The Bank didn't bother verifying if that mob no indeed was their new client's and seeded it into their systems. I had a hard time getting it removed. Such callousness is common in India.

@Chellaney There are only three sovereign countries in the world - USA, China, and Russia. No self-respecting 'sovereign' country should bother about unilateral sanctions imposed by another country. India should respect only sanctions imposed by @UN which is a global body.

India’s compliance, China’s defiance: As New Delhi petitions Washington to renew the sanctions waiver expiring today so it can keep importing Russian oil, Trump says he is considering lifting U.S. sanctions on Chinese refiners buying Iranian crude. China defies American sanctions and gets accommodation; India complies and still needs permission.

@ShereenBhan Should also encourage households to extend LPG cylinder usage, instead of forcing booking every 3 months. Else distributor deactivates consumer's account, making consumer visit distributor in person to reactivate account. Needless inconvenience. @MoPNG_eSeva @PetroleumMin

@ANI All Banks are required to offer BSBD Accounts which require no minimum balance. A member of parliament should do his homework before speaking in the House. Jan Dhan Accounts designed for rural folks & urben poor too don't require any minimum balance.

@arshiaunis Not just universities, many 'NGOs' get funding from abroad for stalling development work citing environmental damage etc. This is surrogate lobbying and should be banned. All NGOs' funding and spends should be strictly audited to know if they spend where they are supposed to.

While the Supreme Court struck down the NJAC Act citing "judicial independence", will the Modi Govt dare to ignore the CJI's vindictive direction against the NCERT panel ? Will the wannabe Vishwaguru and self-proclaimed Avtarpurush have the guts to pushback against the judiciary?
Anand Ranganathan@ARanganathan72

A blatant overreach that mocks the very principles of justice - this is exactly what Emergency looks like, except that this time round the unelected have declared it. On this, one of the darkest of days in the history of Indian Judiciary, I stand with Michel Danino. Always will.

@pranesh Yes, the Supreme Court has no power to direct the Govt on how it should treat its staff. It can only suggest action in case a primary facie case can be made against the staff, which isn't applicable to the NCERT panel. It's only the CJI's view that the panel had malicious intent.

This is insanity. The Supreme Court has no such powers. I hope responsible legislators, chief ministers, newspaper editors, and other citizens speak out against the Chief Justice behaving in such a despotic manner, going far beyond the powers vested under the Constitution.
ANI@ANI

The Supreme Court has directed the Centre and all State governments along with all institutions receiving public funds, either partially or fully, to dissociate the chairperson of NCERT social science curriculum, Professor Michel Denino and his two other associate members who were behind the Sub-chapter in part 2 of the Class 8 NCERT Social Science textbook 'Corruption in the Judiciary', in any manner for the purpose of preparation of curriculum or finalisation of text book for the next generation. A bench led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant also directed all of the aforesaid authorities to disassociate Professor Denino, along with his team, from the preparation and inclusion of the Chapter, from rendering any service in any institution, which would mean payment to them from public funds. “At the outset we have no reason to doubt that professor Michel Danino along with Ms Diwakar and Mr Alok Prasanna Kumar either does not reasonable knowledge about Indian judiciary or they deliberately knowingly misrepresented the facts in order to project a negative image of Indian judiciary before students of Class 8 who are at an impressionable age. There is no reason as to why such persons be associated in any manner with preparation of curriculum or finalisation of text book for the next generation. We direct union, all states, all institutions recieving state funds, to disassociate them from rendering any service which would mean payment to them from public funds”, the Court noted.

Umr bhar judge yahi bhool karta raha, dhool chehre par thi, aaina saaf karta raha. Judicial corruption in India is not only real, it is rampant. The Supreme court may have extracted a grovelling apology from a spineless NCERT but it forgets - you can run milords, you can't hide.

@barandbench Had Indira Gandhi been PM of India now, she would've pushed back against the Supreme Court / #CJISuryakant by retaining the 'offensive' chapter by including all public servants & institutions which are well-known for rampant corruption. She'd have never retracted the chapter.

“We direct union, all states, all institutions recieving state funds, to disassociate them from rendering any service which would mean payment to them from public funds”. This is an equivalent of ‘desh nikala’. A serious scholar who has given years in documenting and commenting on Indian history, and his team, are being banished for speaking truth to power. This is not only unjust, but also dangerous to the idea of justice.

@ANI Right to live with dignity should mean right to die with dignity too. Keeping someone with no hope of recovering from a vegetative state (as per doctors) only drains finances of the family of such patients. Laws should allow passive euthanasia with strict supervision by doctors.

#WATCH | Delhi: On Supreme Court judgement over Ghaziabad man's right to die, Advocate Manish Jain says, "... The case of Harish Rana, who was suffering for 13 years, was brought before the Supreme Court. Under Article 21, the Court granted him the right to euthanasia. Within a week, it will be transferred to AIIMS, where all life-support tubes will be removed, allowing him to pass away naturally without further medical intervention. This decision follows the 2018 Common Cause guidelines, which set out how individuals in a palliative state with complete immobility should be treated. While passive euthanasia is more common worldwide, this ruling marks a small but significant step in India. The Court has directed all state Chief Medical Officers to establish primary and secondary boards for euthanasia and to report regularly to their ministries."
