@onesoccer @TELUS That goal reminds me of Dominic Mobilio’s goal against Honduras at Swangard Stadium.

MEMORABLE MOMENT ✨ Presented by @telus This Tani Oluwaseyi strike came from an audacious angle for the CanMNT 🇨🇦 vs. Honduras – what a hit! 📐 What's your favourite Tani Oluwaseyi memory? 👀

@DonTaylor5 We're in a socio-political climate which does not allow for excitement without fear of criticism. Maybe not for Expo, but there were negatives to the Olympics however people did not fear for social exile by embracing the spirit of sport due to political difference.

From Expo 86 to the 2010 Olympics, I can’t remember an event coming to Vancouver more surrounded by negativity and indifference than the World Cup.

13 of the 27 players on #TFCLive's current roster are unavailable tonight due to injury. That's 48 per cent of the roster. In all my years of covering Toronto FC, I don't ever recall an injury situation as bad as this.

Sebatian Berhalter is the best contract in MLS. $480k salary. 13 G+A in just 12 games. $36,923 per goal contribution — the cheapest elite production in the league by a very healthy kilometre. #VWFC

@MoeKhan19 @sportsrage Yet the European model of pro/rel consistently creates leagues where one or two teams dominate everyone else, leading to less competition.

@sportsrage This would never happen in Europe, supporters would put the fear into ownership. Frustrating with the MLS model of no pro/rel format that enables teams to do as they please. It would create more competition.

@jackschach Based on the Ali Ahmed trade MLS is about on par with the championship. He couldn’t score here but over there he is like a hot knife through butter.

@KevinNguyen_89 Do keep in mind Vancouver was missing Müller, Gauld (Our best player before he got injured), Vesalinovic (our best defender), Adikubi (sp)(our best left back), Priso, Schonlau, Halbouni, and Djordjevic.

The threadbare Quakes suffered for long stretches at home, but salvage a point against the dangerous Whitecaps. Bruce Arena’s team remains first in the standings. The World Cup break can’t come soon enough.

@myfriendtheend @sportsrage Check out Forbes annual report on MLS teams. $300 million is likely o little bit low. Don’t discount the cost of setting up academies in every province west of Ontario and the exchange rate - earnings in Canada$, wages in US$

@sportsrage Hmmmm Caps lose, on average $8-$10M USD Year. I’d say Kerfoot et al have lost close to $100M USD

if a team that gets 27k a game with a bottom tier roll and losing 45 mil a year then MLS is biggest scam in world history BUT this is an insane lie lol
Shanel Pratap@shanelpratap

From the LATimes "The #Whitecaps have reportedly lost more than $300 million since joining MLS 15 years ago and they are forecast to lose as much as $45 million this season." 45. Mill. Dang.

@PeteSchaad Did they also have academies in every province west of Ontario (I’m not sure about the territories). All had to be setup pretty much from scratch.

That’s a lot of overhead with fluctuating dollars adding a premium. Maximizing every possible commercial revenue source helps. But you also need academy players moving upward or onward to justify that expense. I’m not sure that’s happened enough over these 15 years. 2/2

When the Whitecaps group joined MLS, the exchange rate was almost at par. That changed significantly after 2015. It’s always an issue for CDN sports entities in US Leagues. On top of 1st team, add academy leagues at U16 & U18, and the reserve program in MLS Next Pro. 1/2

@PeteSchaad I think that 20 to 25 million they got for Davies pretty much covers their costs.

#drunkPeter is back. I'm quite bemused how both municipal and provincial politics getting tangled up in the "business" of a local sport club and its extraordinary ties to the local community (read: constituents) Nobody can take the "Love Vegas" stance. Love it #saveTheCaps

@xczimi @morbital Exactly that is with leadership. They blame corporate sponsors but there is enough businesses to support a MLS team in the city. We are much bigger pop wise then alot of US MLS cities
