Unpopular opinion, feel free to discuss: The final wheel design of the Tesla Cybercab will make or break its success. Or at least be a huge part of it. Let me explain using a totally not se*ist analogy: Just like a slightly above-average-looking woman in killer high heels can instantly go from wallflower to femme fatale, big wheels can totally make or break a car’s overall look and vibe. The Cybercab prototype exaggerated it, the recent versions with the glued-on “rubber band” aero covers absolutely nail it: Spectacular, futuristic vibes that live up to the catchphrase “The future should look like the future.” But strip away those tire covers? It immediately looks way more dull, kinda goofy, even out of proportion, and therefore quickly comes off as cheap. And not the good kind of cheap. With the covers on, people spam “awesome” and „beautiful“ non-stop. „Muscular“ I read somewhere. Paired with the gullwing doors, non-experts suddenly assume several hundred horsepower and even ridiculous terms like “supercar optics” get tossed around on X (ok, that was me lol). Without them? Mostly crickets. Or worse, straight-up comments about how crappy and cheap it looks. You’d peg it at the 80-150 hp it’ll probably actually have. Are these „bigger wheels“ an illusion? Yes. But a good one, and imho necessary. Can Tesla even pull off that bigger-wheel / aero effect in mass production without complications? And at what cost? I really hope they‘ll somehow figure it out and make it into final production. The gullwing doors aren’t really necessary either, they add expense and complexity, but they’re cool as hell and will likely pay off big time in the long run. Bottom line: Style matters way more to the overall experience than most people believe or are willing to admit. Even if it’s „just a taxi“. This wheel detail decides if your Cybercab pulls up looking like an underwhelming slab of dull metal or a futuristic, head-turning spectacle that‘s shockingly affordable at the same time. A rare combination. What do you think: covers essential or overrated? „Driving performance is important!“ That’s of course still correct for 2026, but it’s a very limited or shortsighted perspective. The future is not about the best car on wheels, it’s about the best lounge on wheels. The best experience. Driving feel and performance will become increasingly irrelevant. This shift has already begun.

@Rational_Tesla @SawyerMerritt The entire fucking point of BMW is Driver engagement, and having the ultimate driving machine. It isn't autonomy of the cars lol. There is a reason they are still making manual M cars in 2026.
