@AlexThe9In @emilybwebb “Can I pass through your territory?” “Sure you can” That is the original tradition. The modern version was created in the 70’s to welcome Māori’s because Australian Aborigines did not have a welcoming ceremony.

@emilybwebb Backlash is because “Welcome to Country” is a bad English-language misnomer alienating Aussies It’s Custodians’ Welcome to Ancestral Homelands Aborigines w/ different languages, cultures, identities did it to each other w/ no single name; most mean “Hello”, “Come with wellness”

I feel profoundly sad and ashamed at the mindless cruelty of people in Australia who won’t educate themselves to understand Welcome to Country.

@DrCraigEmerson “Welcome to Country” not “Acknowledgment of Country”. Maybe you shouldn’t throw your two cents in if you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Booing at the Dawn Service on ANZAC Day during the Acknowledgement of Country is not only disrespectful of First Nations people it is disrespectful of all those who fought for our country - including my father. He would have been appalled.

Has anyone ever even met a member of the Ku KluxKlan? Or know anyone who legitimately calls themselves a Nazi? We've been told this is a huge problem. So... you'd think we'd all know SOMEONE that identifies this way. Anyone?

@GrumpyOLSoldier The aborigines who served as ANZACs did so voluntarily. They did it for Australia and all Australians. Why oh why are now doing WTC? It’s basically disrespecting aboriginal ANZACs who fought and died for ALL Australians under the Australian flag! We are One. Lest We Forget.

I served my Country for 25 years. I am Aboriginal. I am not a Fan of booing BUT I understand why people did it. The WTC at ANZAC ceremonies is WRONG and DIVISIVE. It disrespects all those who served under ONE Flag without question. It disrespects every other race that served

@vocalreasoning @DrJessTaylor Most definitely not a matter of age. A mature 14 year old can have more of a say in a custody battle than an immature 17 year old. In saying that I’m in no way advocating for a low age for consent to sex. It’s a morally sticky issue and should always default to a higher age imo

@RayMcmahon82 @DrJessTaylor It is more likely that more 17 years are maturer than 15 year olds, but yes it is still an arbitrary line, no doubt.

Can we just take a second to really take this in? How on earth has it come to this? Where a man can performatively ‘admit’ to sex with a child on an international platform but then couch it as some form of reflection or responsible accountability exercise - whilst deliberately leaning on our terrible, useless, outdated sexual offences act and age of consent? This man was 30 years old, and at the height of his fame - when he made an active choice to have sex with a child. I would use much stronger language here but he’s deliberately leaning on our consent laws, that a 16 year old child can technically consent to sex - meaning that he could technically have ‘consensual sex’ with a school age child. His admission and his disgusting performative ‘progressive’ ‘reflection’ that he is ‘exploitative’ makes my effin skin crawl. If this is not a predator in full swing, I do not know what is. This man is admitting to sex with children and no one is going to do a thing about it. Absolutely atrocious. Our laws need urgently updating to ensure no adult can ever have technically consensual sex with a child. No adult should ever want that; and no child should ever be exposed to it. End.

@DrJessTaylor If you actually watched the interview he also called it out. Unfortunately it is entirely legal and therefore adds the temptation. He was in a bad place at the time, shows regret but still didn’t “break the law”. The problem is the age of consent, not the people who follow it.

@DrJessTaylor It is strange that a person aged 15 years and 364 days is unable to consent but 16 years and a day they suddenly can. There is no measure of degree of maturity or umderstanding and it seems a bit arbitrary. Some people will be mature enough but not many.

@bprintco Is this the first time that you have ever rented a piece of equipment? Delivery and pickup fees are to be expected and a 40 hour limit on a 1 week rental is common practice. These are also questions that most people would be sure to ask when renting any equipment.

It’s a mobile repair service, so you’re leaving out the entire “mobile” part and only thinking about the repair itself if you think a repair man only has two minutes invested in this. There’s everything from actually getting the battery, going to do the work, doing the work, then also coming back from doing the work. This takes a lot more than two minutes.

@FuckernutsMcGee @grok @OvertempMarine @andywalkerhq @HspGhostyy @buyahause You don’t get it. It’s a 2 minute job. Which means you’re paying the guy $10740/hr to do it. By all means calibrate it, but $358 for 2 minutes work is absolutely ludicrous. Maybe it’s 5 minutes to pull the old battery out and put the new one in. That’s still $3070/hr altogether.
