And it's a complete LIE. Not because marketing doesn't work. It does. It's the most important lever in your business. The lie is in the timeline. The lie is that there's some shortcut that lets you skip the hard part. If running ads tomorrow made everyone millions, every single person would be doing it. Some of the most profitable businesses can still overpay 6-figures in tax every year because nobody ran the W-2 math before December. Once a business crosses $200,000 in profit, the tax playbook changes and you need to have a different conversation. If your adjusted gross income (AGI) is below certain levels, you can get the qualified business income deduction even if you did not pay any W-2 wages. Above those thresholds, the deduction gets capped by W-2 wages actually on payroll. For single filers, that cutoff lands around $197,000 in AGI. For married filing jointly, it sits around $400,000. A company running entirely on 1099 contractors at that income level needs to see this coming before year-end. No W-2 wages above the threshold means no deduction. That gap can be tens of thousands of dollars every single year. One route you can take is transitioning some of the workforce to W-2 before December 31st. Another is finding ways to bring AGI below the limitation while there is still time. Both work when the conversation starts in October. Not "boosting" a Facebook post. Actual search ads targeting "[your trade] + [your city]" so when someone's AC dies on the first 90° day, YOUR phone rings. 2. At least 75 Google reviews. Under 75? You're invisible in the Map Pack during peak season when 11 other companies are all fighting for the same 3 spots. Every week you don't ask is a week your competitor stacks 5 more. 3. A follow-up system that works when you're on a job. You're on a roof. You're under a sink. You're in an attic. 3 calls come in. All 3 go to voicemail. All 3 call your competitor. You need auto-text, a booking link, or an AI agent answering while you work. 4. Neighborhood landing pages for every area you serve. You serve 15 cities but your website has 1 homepage? Google doesn't know you exist in 14 of those markets. One page per city. One page per service per city. That's how you own local search in Q2. Summer doesn't wait. If I wanted to build another dumpster company, I would be able to do it within 50 cities and not own a single piece of equipment..... I wouldn't buy a truck. I wouldn't buy a single dumpster. I wouldn't lease a yard. I wouldn't hire a CDL driver. I'd build a dumpster rental BROKERAGE. The roll-off dumpster industry does $5 BILLION a year in the US. 99% of operators are stuck in ONE city because they're chained to their trucks and cans. Reviews are definitely an important part, but only a piece of the puzzle. For AI rankings these are important: - Brand authority meaning people searching your business name - Reviews across multiple sites (Google, meta, yelp) - Hyper local website content with specific FAQ’s (down to neighborhood level) - Directory listings (yelp, BBB, etc) - Structured data on website And many more, but those are the big things. What we hear from clients so far if that AI leads are high quality.
