Insights from Latin America's agrifood transformation! Evidence from Argentina's no-tillage revolution, Peru's policy-driven agribusiness growth, and Brazil's cooperative-led dairy modernization shows that technology scales only when backed by strong institutions, strategic investment, and long-term policy commitment. As stakeholders conclude the high-level dialogue (Yaoundé-Cameroon) on the @_AfricanUnion Kampala CAADP implementation guidelines and domestication tools, what has the continent achieved after two decades of CAADP implementation? CAADP has elevated agriculture’s profile within Africa’s political agenda, mobilized investments for the sector, strengthened agricultural sector policy dialogue and planning, and improved monitoring and accountability, particularly through the CAADP Biennial Review (BR) process. Intra-African agricultural trade more than doubled from $5.4 billion to $14.9 billion between 2003 and 2021, while agricultural labor productivity increased by over 40%. Yet, undernourishment has risen to 19.9%, underscoring the urgency for renewed commitment under the next decade of CAADP implementation (2026-2035). Insights from the #ATOR2025: resakss.org/node/6931

Insect Farming's Economic Potential! Insect farming with Black Soldier Fly larvae could generate $211 billion annually for Africa, equivalent to 2.21% of the continental GDP, while creating 17 million jobs and lifting 22 million people out of poverty. By converting organic waste into protein feed and fertilizer, this circular economy solution directly advances the @_AfricanUnion #KampalaDeclaration's goals for inclusive growth and sustainable agrifood systems. Aquaponic Systems for Sustainable Small-Scale Farming! A pilot aquaponics production unit was constructed in Malawi to evaluate the economic and ecological feasibility of an aquaponics system in rural conditions. The project integrates two innovative, climate-smart technologies: Aquaponics and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming. BSF farming is a cost-effective solution that provides high-quality protein for fish, poultry, and livestock consumption. Insights from the #ATOR2025: resakss.org/node/6931

Digital tools are reshaping livestock farming in #Africa. #Kenya’s iCow platform delivers timely animal health, nutrition, and breeding advice via SMS to over 150,000 smallholder farmers. Users reported a 13% increase in milk yields, a 29% rise in income from milk sales, and a 22% increase in household income. These outcomes directly support the @_AfricanUnion #KampalaDeclaration's commitment to advancing inclusivity and equitable livelihoods through accessible technology. #ATOR2025: resakss.org/node/6931

Making a case for Africa’s technological transformation! #ATOR2025 identifies key barriers: limited connectivity (only 25% of sub-Saharan Africans had mobile internet by 2022), skills gaps & scarce financing. To accelerate transformation, countries should invest in infrastructure & capacity, strengthen policy & build partnerships. The @ReSAKSS #ATOR2025 provides a ready-to-use tool for policymakers to deploy comprehensive interventions. More: resakss.org/sites/default/…

Unlocking AI's potential requires understanding five key dimensions: Readiness, Needs, Infrastructure, Enablers & Adoption. #ATOR2025 shows that while nearly all African countries score high on transformation needs, due to food insecurity & climate vulnerability, adoption lags. The Africa Agriculture Watch (@AAgWa_News) platform exemplifies how satellite data & machine learning can bridge this gap, delivering forecasts that reduce uncertainty for farmers. Where can AI & geospatial tech have the greatest impact in Africa's agrifood systems? #ATOR2025 introduces the Untapped Potential Index (UPI)—a first-of-its-kind tool measuring readiness, need, infrastructure & adoption. It provides @_AfricanUnion Member States with a data-driven roadmap for targeted investment, fully aligned with the #KampalaDeclaration's call for evidence-based transformation. Despite several external shocks, intra-African agricultural trade tripled between 2003 and 2023. However, Africa remains heavily dependent on food imports from the rest of the world. Increasing intra-African trade can be a coping strategy for global crises and supply chain disruptions. Policies that prioritize regional self-sufficiency should be pursued more actively, particularly within the framework of the @AfCFTA. The 17th edition of the #ATOR highlights the critical role of public investment, regional cooperation &partnerships with the private sector, producer organizations, research institutions & development partners. Strong agricultural research & development systems, coherent seed & regulatory frameworks, empowered producer organizations & robust data & accountability mechanisms are indispensable for translating innovation into broad-based impact. In this regard, the report reinforces the centrality of @AUC_CAADP as Africa’s flagship framework for aligning policy, investment & accountability around a shared continental vision. #ATOR2025 Foreword by H.E. @MosesVilakati & @DrOBadiane: resakss.org/sites/default/…
