@mickhumph Better use would be to redeem the building by doing something positive. By your logic the Tower of London should be knocked down too.

Reading jail stands for everything that is wrong and cruel and horrible. It must be raised to the ground and the land used as a pubic field of remembrance and penance all our failed and failing criminal justice systems. No housing must ever be built. That would be obscene.

@mickhumph I agree that using the site for housing is highly undesirable and that the area should help us remember some of the injustices of the past, such as Oscar Wilde’s incarceration for “gross indecency”. However, I disagree with knocking the building down.

Been making case to @MoJGovUK over some time for a regeneration of Reading Gaol which recognises its iconic heritage & delivers a local arts and culture hub. Thanks @RobertBuckland for confirming period of exclusivity for @ReadingCouncil to develop a business case with partners!

The BBC reported that the Developer who planned to purchase #ReadingGaol (Artisan of the Isle of Man) has just withdrawn. One good thing to come out of #COVID19. Best of luck to our friends in Reading who are fighting to stop the sale of the Gaol. #OscarWilde #heritage
