Funke Akindele’s Aiyetoro Town and the Jenifa series have, over time, reinforced the image of Yorubas as razz, uneducated, and unable to speak proper English. The impact is real, and it will take time to undo. At least Jenifa was just one character. Aiyetoro presents an entire town as uncouth. Look at how the world embraced Wakanda and even thought it was real. That is the same way some people now view Yoruba communities because of portrayals like Aiyetoro. Some people got Wakanda. We got Aiyetoro.
