Ilhan Omar. Shri Thanedar. Pramila Jayapal. All born in foreign countries, none were citizens by birth. All sitting in the United States Congress. All making clear every single day their loyalty is not to America. We just introduced a long overdue joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to require Members of Congress, federal judges, and Senate-confirmed officers to be natural born citizens. This is the very same standard the President and Vice President are already required to meet. The people writing America's laws, confirming America's judges, and representing America on the world stage should have one loyalty: America. Not any other country. For too long we have allowed foreign born members to hold seats in this government while making clear they are America last, not America first. We see it every day. This constitutional amendment will put an end to it.

@sommecourt just listened to the Gallipoli episode. About 7 years ago I was lucky enough to travel to Wellington and I saw The Scale of Our War exhibit at Te Papa museum. It was absolutely incredible. I hope you get an opportunity to see it.

I’m heartbroken to see another act of violence targeting a religious community – this time at a mosque in San Diego. Muslim communities should be free to worship without fear. We need to speak out tirelessly against Islamophobia and the relentless scourge of gun violence.

The intent is to attack the authentic achievements of the Civil Rights movement by questioning its necessity. If Rosa Parks had to playact, then maybe coercive racial separation wasn’t so bad. unherd.com/newsroom/matt-…

@Jerry__Grey @JamesSurowiecki Again, please witness the above post on watching “Eyes On The Prize” in 1989 in a public school. And while we are on the subject of inaccurate things being taught in schools, how many of you were taught that the Civil War happened due to burdensome levels of taxation on cotton?

Setting aside that everyone knows this story, I don't even understand what the complaint here is. The civil rights movement was fighting a vicious system of legalized racial discrimination and oppression. How is it a problem that they were strategic in combating it?
Wall Street Apes@WallStreetApes

We have literally been lied to about everything Matt Walsh “The Rosa Parks story you were taught in school was fake too. This was not just some woman on her way home from work. Civil rights leaders thought Parks would make a sympathetic face for their lawsuit and then told her, a longtime NAACP volunteer, to create a situation where she'd be arrested. This gets sold to the public as totally organic when actually it's playacting to create ideal conditions for a court case or scandal. The iconic photo of Parks on the bus was staged months after the incident as part of a press campaign. (The photo is shown in the clip) The white man, sitting behind her in the bus photo was a journalist, which you probably didn't know.” Let’s fact check this. It’s 100% true What Actually Happened on December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks was a longtime NAACP volunteer and secretary of the Montgomery chapter. She had been deeply involved in civil rights activism for years (including work on cases like the Recy Taylor rape and voter registration efforts). She was not just a random tired seamstress on her way home from work who spontaneously refused to move. Local civil rights leaders had been looking for a strong test case to challenge bus segregation. They even had people cast for the role before Rosa Parks. Earlier attempts include 15 year old Claudette Colvin were passed over because leaders felt Rosa Parks, a mature, respected, married woman with a spotless reputation, would be a more sympathetic plaintiff in court and to the public The Iconic Photo was 100% staged The famous photo was taken on December 21, 1956, this is over a year after her arrest and on the first day the buses were integrated after the Supreme Court ruling It was deliberately staged by journalists, Look Magazine and UPI, for a press campaign to dramatize the victory The white man sitting behind her is Nicholas Chriss, a UPI reporter, not a random angry passenger or segregationist

@Jerry__Grey @JamesSurowiecki My assertion is that the “tired feet” myth might have been taught to third graders, but the real story is common knowledge. It’s like Walsh is pissed that George Washington didn’t actually chop down a cherry tree.

@RubenZorian @feelsdesperate 1990. I do remember reading the “her feet hurt” narrative when I was around nine years old, but that wasn’t in school. Matt being pissed about this is like getting pissed off about George Washington not chopping down a cherry tree

Ironically good tweet from Yglesias. There are in fact two types of schools: Those where they discuss how to construct ideological propaganda and those where they disseminate it.

What is the upshot here? Are we supposed to conclude that segregation wasn’t real? Or that it was good?

@RealForeFathers @SohrabAhmari Well we when BLMers protest the death of an overdosing career criminal who was resisting arrest it's good! And we must really suppress the truth about the incident. Contrast that to J6 which was supposedly an insurrection where no one was charged with insurrection Truth matters

@JamesSurowiecki @CoreyWriting The movement was promoted as organic when is was managed. Rosa Parks was no hero. Her family had a car and it took months of riding the bus for Rosa to be asked to move.

"Rosa Parks was always an agent of civil rights" is a pivot happening in real time. This was not what was taught to any millennial who went to public school. Yes, of course she was, but that was not the narrative in 1998. Nor 2008.

Yglesias is *probably* making this up, but he might not be; if elite NYC prep schools are teaching the true story that Rosa Parks was an activist stunt and not some poor woman w sore feet, it's just another example of "The woke are more correct than the mainstream."

"I guess I went to a better school" Yglesias went to The Dalton School, the ultra exclusive high school for the rich and famous. Yes, the one that Jeffrey Epstein taught at
