@woggastweet @Inevry109 @LeeHurstComic Unpaid Overtime as the TUC is defining it here relates to office workers who do a bit extra, or sole traders who pay themselves what they can afford not what they actually work. Paid overtime in blue collar jobs is different.

So how would someone game the system with Reform’s new no tax on overtime policy? You have an employee on £36,000 per year. This is their wage which they are fully taxed on. Your employee asks for a pay rise of £2,000 a year. The pay rise would give them £1,600 net take home and they would pay an extra £400 in tax. Instead of a pay rise, your employer offers you £1,700 as ‘overtime’ spread out over the year. The employee is now £100 per year better off. The employer saves £300 per year plus pays slightly less National Insurance too.

@drchrisnewton It’s unfathomable for me why Restore would field a candidate in Wigan to help Labour, whilst not fielding a candidate in Aberdeen which helps the Tories.

The division we're seeing on the right in Makerfield is why I don't bother with political parties anymore. What's the point of wasting energy and time when you ultimately lose because the senior people are incapable of seeing the bigger picture?

@robo1955 Try getting a price from Motorway. WBAC is used by people who can’t sell (or can’t be bothered) any other way so they offer rock bottom price and negotiate down from there.

@LoftusSteve I bought an 2 year old ex lease little Seat Mii EV as a run about a couple of years ago for a song. Just got a quote from 'we buy any car' and was surprised at how little it had depreciated. (Had been sorely tempted with 2 year lease of a new Tesla model 3 for £200 a month).

@LeeHurstComic No such thing as "gaming the system". I'd offer them a new contract at minimum wage with 1/3rd hours and then overtime on the rest. Or alternatively not have a tax system that has people spending time that they could use making their businesses better.

@Inevry109 @LeeHurstComic Overtime is common practice in many jobs such as manufacturing, warehousing and care sectors for example. It allows employers to flexibly adapt to variable work volumes, and for workers they get optional additional top-up pay. Win-win

@LeeHurstComic So the logic is "instead of earning more for the hours you work, you now have to work more hours and be away from the family unit longer to earn a hundred fucking quid more than what you could have got" Nahhhh this encourages distancing family relations. Not a good idea.

@LeeHurstComic As long as both parties know what is happening there. A pay rise is locked in, but you pay more tax. The promise of overtime comes with no guarantees but you would be better off if you get it.

@GBNEWS so if you sell shares and don't reinvest, waiting to find the right opportunity, you are going to be hit with a tax on your cash holding. So basically you have to stay 100% invested all the time? Crazy @DanNeidle good morning, views pls?

@GBNEWS @d5_rss Taxing the interest earned on cash held in stocks and shares ISAs not the cash itself. I’m no RR fanboy but it’s an important distinction.

@DPJHodges @RaheemKassam Is Team Burnham uncomfortable with scrutiny? Doesn’t sound like a great attribute for a man who wants to lead the country. Say what you like about Reform, but they take questions from all reporters not just their hand picked client journalists.

Just as I predicted. Reform's latest strategy is to get The National Pulse, a US based MAGA web site - run by former Nigel Farage aide @RaheemKassam - to start attacking the Makerfield charity and its director. Top strategy guys...
The National Pulse@TheNatPulse

EXC: Govt-Funded Cafe Owner Who Lashed Out at Farage Linked to Top Labour Figures. The founder of a publicly subsidized community café who wrote an open letter attacking Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has close ties to senior figures in Britain’s governing Labour Party—including Greater Manchester Mayor and Makerfield by-election (special election) candidate Andy Burnham, who personally amplified her complaint on social media. These are the details: PULSE POINTS ❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Gemma Crompton, Founder and Director of The Hamlet Wigan CIC, wrote an open letter to Nigel Farage after the Reform UK leader visited her premises earlier this week. Farage visited the community café while campaigning in Makerfield, a parliamentary seat his party is vying to take from Labour. The Labour candidate, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, hopes to use it to launch a bid to replace Sir Keir Starmer as Labour leader and Prime Minister. Burnham and the media amplified Crompton’s letter on Friday—but without mentioning her ties to Labour figures, including Burnham. 🎯 IMPACT: Crompton accused Farage and his team of arriving at the café unannounced while Burnham was there, and creating an atmosphere that staff, trainees, and customers found “intimidating and overwhelming.” The Hamlet Wigan CIC is publicly subsidized, and Crompton—its sole director—received remuneration of £59,021 (~$79,300) in the most recent financial year, according to the organization’s own accounts signed off in December 2025. A typical salary in Wigan is around £34,000 a year. 📰 DETAIL: Crompton also appears to have ties to the Labour Party establishment in Wigan. A post from the Wigan Business account shows Crompton receiving a Gold award from Councillor David Molyneux, a Labour politician and former Council Leader. Crompton’s letter even admitted that the new Labour leader, Nazia Rehman, made her day “even more special” by confirming her cafe had been granted a 25-year lease with the full support of Wigan Council, i.e. local taxpayers. For Crompton to be using publicly subsidized premises for outward partisan campaigning so close to a special (by) election is almost unheard of, yet the corporate media has refused to reveal any of this information, instead portraying her as a small cafe owner who was overwhelmed by Mr. Farage having a cup of tea at her (or, rather, the taxpayers’) business. 💬 KEY QUOTE: “Why didn’t the BBC report that Gemma is close with the outgoing Labour council leader, who is one of Burnham’s bezzie [best] mates?” – Raheem Kassam, Editor-in-Chief of The National Pulse

@LeeAndersonMP_ How do you know the woman that asked for a selfie was the manager Why not just apologise if you inadvertently caused upset , that would be the decent thing to do Meanwhile the bollocks about @christiancalgie being upset because Andy Burnham shouted at him is cringeworthy

@RedWallPleb @RobKenyonReform The same lefties that spent all day yesterday having a fit of the vapours because a man heckled Reeves, has absolutely no comment on Burnham swearing and hassling a journalist who simply wanted to ask a few questions after a chance meeting 🤔

So, it turns out this letter is from a Director of the cafe that Burnham was in yesterday and the actual woman that was running the cafe was very happy to have Farage and @RobKenyonReform in there and had no problems with any of their behaviours. He's rang up his snobby Director friends to write a letter in his support because he knew the woman in the actual cafe wouldn't do that for him.
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

Mr @christiancalgie has been busy putting out a partial version of events these last few days, amplified by yourselves. I think it’s time all your readers had the whole story. They were all out of order and, if they had any decency, would now hold their hands up and apologise.

@Matthew__Bowles @spectator Our Government with a deficit of around 4% of our entire GDP, is annoyed that a private company makes a 3% profit. Go figure, as they say.

The pushback to this tweet revealed how many people hear a large nominal figure and stop thinking proportionally. Tesco made about £3bn last year on roughly £70bn in revenue. On that scale, a £3bn profit is a remarkably thin return. My thoughts for the @spectator👇

Supermarkets have profit margins of between just 2% and 4%. Price caps have a long history of producing shortages, weaker supply and many empty shelves. Britain went down that path in the 1970s - it didn't end particularly well...

For the one millionth time, you cannot “overbook” a train. We have a walk up railway. Think of it like a bus, not a plane. Passengers with flexible tickets pick their train. Seat reservations are free. If we had a reservation only railway, those standing wouldn’t be travelling.
Susie Goss@SusieMGoss

Hi @GWRHelp, what compensation are you offering to passengers who’ve paid £90 to travel on the massively over-booked, standing room only 19:04 train from Paddington to Plymouth? How can you force people to stand for hours when tickets cost so much? Disgusting!

OK, on this Makerfield drama. It's nothing to do with @christiancalgie He was following the candidate, and going where he was told. The issue - again - is Reform's lack of basic professionalism. You don't just bowl up to a shared community space with the whole by-election circus without doing basic advance. Which includes asking permission. It's not rocket science.

@DPJHodges @christiancalgie The only person who lost their rag was Andy Burnham. Weren’t you preaching about civility in politics yesterday after Reeves got an earful? The cafe was perfectly fine to have a Reform entourage turn up for a cuppa, only AB objected to a random chance encounter.
