I think it’s less about solving personal problems for men and I agree that there are better outlets for that. I think Hannah was more concerned about men getting little to no practice functioning in mixed environments and no exposure to what women are actually like and how they think

@RealNorthEndGuy @HannahDCox No, the female focus mindset that I'm refering to is the belief that men, just like women, need to talk more about their emotion and be more in touch with then to solve personal problem and be more stable. Research prove its not as useful for most men.

Firmly believe putting more boys in choir and drama would fix what’s going on with them. Get your sons in the arts.

I’m not discounting that it’s not for everyone or that physical activity would work better, but I think some people don’t even try because it’s “female focused” as you put it. Hannah Cox seems to think that more men in the arts would be a good thing, and I think some changes in the arts are necessary for that to happen.

@RealNorthEndGuy @HannahDCox The reality is that wont "fix them" whatever is expected here. Men arent as interested in those things, whether its "labeled gay" or not. Most men tends to get better and control emotion through doing something physical. Its a female focused mindset that you have.

@avidseries Still sounds like an unfair law though. I could see it being construed in a way that makes female candidates off limits for certain attack ads and similar campaign tactics that are fair game on male candidates and would be 1A protected here in the states.

I was lucky in high school to have a charismatic Cross Country captain who basically threatened the whole team including me to come to a men’s acapella group at least once. Not everyone stayed, but enough did that it was able to stay male and straight coded which helped keep the thing alive. Not everything needs to be male dominated, but a low entry, all men’s format could help get more people into the hobby to start, and then some portion of that will venture onto mixed groups. I’ve learned from picking up enough of these hobbies that men can basically get away with anything because they’re so necessary and yet rare. Let more guys (who won’t abuse it) hear that part and see if it works.

@RealNorthEndGuy Was just chatting offline with a friend about this very thing. Glee did a great job of portraying masc men having the confidence to participate in the arts and how that can open the door for other men who are more likely to be bullied. The theater needs the jocks to come on over

@millennial_debt @dylanmatt I’m an employer. We would adjust salaries fully. We don’t have extra money in our budget to cover that. It would either be that or cut jobs - but we’d probably just adjust salaries down to make it come out even.

In my experience Dems dramatically overestimate the political viability of this move. This is a 12.4% tax hike on top earners. Clinton managed 11.5% in his 93 budget; neither Obama or Biden came close to that. Pre-Clinton you have to go back to FDR to see a double-digit hike
Fuck You I Quit@fuckyouiquit

Every dollar earned below $184,500 a year has a Social Security tax of 12.4%. Everything after that cap is exempt. If we lift this cap on the wealthiest earners, Social Security would be fully funded till 2070. The cap should not exist.

@dylanmatt Plus they'd take off the tax cap but not the benefit cap. You'd make a lot of enemies for a general loved universal benefit.

@dylanmatt Not only that but Clinton had to give the GOP some major budget cut concessions which is how we really got a surplus during that administration. The Clinton years were the best of what a divided government can be.

@MentisWave She knew to claim Native American heritage to get into Harvard Law, she likely knows she’s selling snake oil, or did at one point. Serving for what is now her third term could well have gotten her high on her own supply.

Which is more likely to be true for EWarren? 1.) She is genuinely economically illiterate and doesn't understand why taxing high value investments, assets, etc. will tank the value. 2.) She understands this, but pushes it anyways because she knows her voters do not.

Today, I'm introducing my wealth tax — and more than 50 members of Congress are joining me. It’s time for the government to start working for American families, not just the ultra-rich.

I'm fine with Democrats running on this silliness. Republicans should not. The cap exists because the formula for Social Security benefits tops out at $184,500 (adjusted for inflation annually). Lifting the cap without increasing benefits would be the largest tax increase in history by far, and it would hit the people most sensitive to tax increases. It's a very large and vocal group. There are no deductions available for social security taxes. You make $184,500 in wage income? You pay $22,878 in social security taxes. Doesn't matter if you're supporting a spouse and 10 children. You're paying $22,878. I am also enjoying Democrats finally counting the employer's 6.2% contribution as part of the tax. It's 12.4% of whatever you earn, not 6.2%. I'm glad they're admitting that.

Social security was sold as a saving program. The sense that the more you put in the more you get out helps to reduce disincentives, relative to a pure labor tax that transfers to non-workers. It is headed to a pure transfer program.
Jessica Riedl 🧀 🇺🇦@JessicaBRiedl

Yes, capping Social Security benefits at $100k for a couple is a no-brainer. The program is headed to insolvency and, no, eliminating the tax wage cap is not close to enough. An easy place to start is capping the maximum benefit that dwarfs even Europe and Canada.

I’m in favor of doing this but benefits need to change too. I do not and will not support any bill to hit younger professionals with a 12.4% tax hike just to keep boomer benefits untouched.

@fuckyouiquit 1) The employer half of the tax is not exempt, so that change would be marginal and at best. 2) Why must it be young families that get hit with consequences of FDR’s generational screw up? The only permanent solution is to phase out Social Security entirely.
