@Jehkosa @Ariesguy041499 @nikicaga But the thing is… they can’t. That’s the whole damn point. Fundamentally America only works cuz it depends on multiple competing factions making it so that no singular one has the majority of power. In Iran, not so much.

@sudoraohacker @StatisticUrban I mean the whole point of the constitution was that it makes things very hard to get done. Tyranny by the majority is a very real thing. The filibuster makes sure compromise happens and that legislation won’t entirely flip-flop every few years

Good riddance to the filibuster-an unnecessary rule that makes the Senate a supermajority chamber and prizes holdouts and corrupt side deals. Let’s make Congress work - the party in control should pass the legislation it cares about with a simple majority and let voters boot them out and revert if they don’t like it.

@JohnPet59772730 @psychomag1 @TheDemocrats 1. In the past couple weeks in just Minnesota alone, they executed 2 US citizens, and detained a 5 year old. 2. They are much less trained than police, don’t need to identify, are allowed to racially profile, and never get punished 3. They know what they signed up for.

@Real_Pingus @psychomag1 @TheDemocrats Not always. ICE is behaving ethically. Have you seen & heard what they are dealing with? I’m not sure if you have a job, would you like people screaming in your face, blaring horns, whistles all day, followed home, having people make it so you can’t sleep, eat or get to work?

@JohnPet59772730 @psychomag1 @TheDemocrats So, impeding ICE means you should be summarily executed? How about for an alternative, ICE behaves ethically and stops acting like a (not so secret) secret police?

@psychomag1 @TheDemocrats I’ve heard of a way to stop all the issues. Don’t impede ICE agents doing their job. Do not stand in front of vehicles or try to block the road. We learn these things in grade one.

@sadwhalenoises9 @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal And part of being a society of law and order is remembering that the crime must fit the punishment. What they did was wrong, sure, but they’re still people. I believe with some acts, ice has behaved cruel and unusually and in that way has lost the plot.

@sadwhalenoises9 @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal I appreciate the correction. I guess I’ll just end this off by specifically mentioning that this isn’t just semantics. Legally speaking a crime v a civil violation hold very different implications. The treatment of these people is in large part determined by this fact

Being undocumented is NOT a crime. And despite the endless stream of xenophobic and racist rhetoric from Trump and Republicans, the vast majority of immigrants — both documented and undocumented — contribute to America in more ways than we could imagine.

@Thatcoolguyyea @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal Immigration status is based on ones intention to stay. By this logic is anyone an immigrant? How can we say that they moved permanently given how unpredictable the future is? Overstaying a visa is not a legal attempt to immigrate but an attempt to immigrate nonetheless

@Real_Pingus @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal Ummm…. The crazy lady said above that there is such a thing as undocumented immigrant. That is false. Overstayed visas is NOT Immigrating cause immigrating means to settle permanently legally speaking. To intend to settle permanently on a temporary visa is considered fraud.

@babydumpling24 @Thatcoolguyyea @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal Listen, I’m not arguing that we should let them all stay, but any lawyer worth their salt not trying to grift will tell you that the difference between “crime” and “civil violation” isn’t pedantic. The rule of law and justice are incredibly sensitive, so precision is important

@sadwhalenoises9 @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal And as I said before, this isn’t a crime but rather a civil violation. Hence, the majority of illegal immigrants, according to U.S. law haven’t actually committed a crime. While this does not make it permissible, these distinctions are highly important

@sadwhalenoises9 @BlueGreenOrion @libsoftiktok @RepJayapal I mean not necessarily. The majority of people who are here without status entered the country through methods that in isolation are not illegal. For example, th majority of undocumented people came here legally with a visa, and then overstayed it.
