@milmillinetwork @TKopelman Going on three decades at this, and not keeping pace with cost of living, understanding asset classes, and thus not having finances fulfil their life goals is the biggest mistake most make. Index and chill works for 99% of clients because they can't beat a market.

@milmillinetwork @TKopelman As stated, run it like a business, know the numbers, and yes they beat their personal risk adjusted portfolio, whatever is appropriate. However anything underperforming a risk adjusted portfolio for their tolerance is suboptimal, regardless of path or knowing themselves.

“We are going to keep our primary home as a rental. It’ll get us $500 a month of cash flow” Um… are you sure $6000 a year is worth it when you have to keep $550,000 trapped there $550,000 of would yield you 4x that in treasuries…

@milmillinetwork @TKopelman That $600k would yield a ton more opportunity in the markets or paying down the other mortgage. People can have their opinions and feelings, but the facts and numbers are what they are. I've only known one client who did real estate well, yet he was terrible in the markets.

@milmillinetwork @TKopelman Yet, they also don't run the numbers, we do, and we have advised them based on numbers to ditch the property and free up equity of nearly $600k. Buy right or add value; or buy a ton of doors. Real estate is a business.

@CamsMullet When tiger was peak, no one challenged like we have now. The field has more diversity and parity, more talented players crushing it. This is utter nonsense. I've watched since the 80s and it's the best it's been.

I would rather eat smashed glass than watch the Cadillac Championship. PGAT at its worst. A sad sad day. No crowds, no cut, bloated purses, limited field, only a few super stars.... (did I get that narrative right?)

@secrettourpro They should definitely kiss the ring and make amends with PGA. While they took the bag, it was also about growing something competitive. When it doesn't work out with the new crazy hotness, you can't just walk back in. Amends needs to be made.

@RotoStreetWolf These guys will barely get anything and then buried by next year's class. Benson was a good prospect, great in college; taken 3rd round. All are worth mid to late round shots, but no confidence they will leap ahead to meaningful career.

@cafebrouge @tomandmartys The format of pga is Superior, the courses, the commentators, the tournaments, history, majors, set up, branding, announcers, and more. There's a story to events like the masters, us open, British open, or players/pga championship that is unmatched.

I think looking back at LIV there was a truly pivotable period in the summer of 2022. They’d signed a solid early batch of players, then they nabbed Cam Smith. The PGA was reeling and had no plan. Had LIV signed one or two more top players then, a Rahm, or whomever, it may have opened the floodgates to a lot of guys switching that offseason. But Norman couldn’t get it done. I think Phil was expected to be a huge part of it but he was sidelined due to his truly idiotic comments to Shipnuck. This bought time for PGA to come up with a plan and it was too late. Can’t help but think how differently it would have played out had they gotten like a Deki and Morikawa (just examples) that July or August. But Norman couldn’t make the sell.

@MMcEwanGolf The Capital & Talent will be re-allocated to the most astute & efficient allocator & investor of said talent capital, namely the PGA Tour. This is only a net positive for the game of golf. LIV did not stand to occupy any kind of GAP in the game of golf.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but for every multi-millionaire golfer who will be fine if LIV *does* close, the league has many , many more employees who have families and mortgages and bills to pay. I’d put myself in their shoes, not Jon Rahm’s or Bryson DeChambeau’s, before crowing too loudly.

@kylehampsey @LenHochberg There seems to be some dislike for Rory, but given his stance on LIV, he only won my favor & respect. Pros want to join the history of the PGA, play amongst the best, play the best courses and tournaments, and the $ follow suit. LIV was and always will be a 'joke' imo.

@kylehampsey @LenHochberg I was a huge Rahm fan, but turning your back on the tour that made you, crushed it for me. It's been shown that without the competition, talent, courses, etc, these guys are good, but not great, not consistently. They left for $, that's it. Brooks saw the writing on the wall.

If/when LIV Golf shuts down, it'll be the Wild West in professional golf. What happens to Rahm, DeChambeau, Hatton, Niemann, Smith, etc.? They'll want back on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour will want them back. But it won't be that simple. Some of them could've taken the Brooks Koepka deal but passed. Oops.

@troubledyank I’m no LIV fan. Probably a LIV hater. But the problem is the PGA has hardly changed. The disruption that should have lead the PGA to make substantial changes is over. The PGA know they have seen off the LIV challenge and will just revert.

LIV golf came to the scene at a time when the PGA was wildly vulnerable. All LIV had to do was keep the classic golf rules. 72 holes with a cut. Pants on the golf course. No loud music in the background and they would have given the PGA a serious run for their money. People were legitimately sick of the PGA taking the ESPN/left wing corporate route of sports organization. Whoever set up LIV golf rules is a person beyond brain dead. Completely unaware of what was at stake. The formatting was so stupid that it gave PGA all the time in the world to regroup and get its act together. Grateful that LIV forced the PGA to change. But what a dumb organization….

@jerichsen66 @troubledyank Also, liv players performances at majors while supposedly taking the best talent and underwhelming blows the whole argument up that they took the elite talent. It was just bad execution in trying to establish a competing golf model and your. I'm glad it has and will fall.

@jerichsen66 @troubledyank This is just a bad take. They aren't elite if the field isn't elite & the course isn't set up to change elite players. If you have to recruit and sign talent from other tours, rather than nurture your own talent, you don't have a business or tour.

I am not a hater, BUT the @PGA & @PGATOUR should kind of be embarrassed by this Master’s win. Rory is a great golfer and I take zero away from him BUT when you say in an interview that you took off 3 tournaments leading up to the Masters “because you don’t like them” and then say you spent that time playing practice rounds at Augusta? Do any other #golf fans see an issue here?? This guy is supposed to be THE face of the PGA and goes and craps on 3 of its tournaments and used his advantage of being able to play at Augusta to his advantage in terms of practice is a bunch of BS and shouldn’t be allowed. If you think I’m wrong, fine, but tell that to another former champ, #HidekiMatsuyama who did the opposite of what Rory did. #PGA #PGATour #TheMasters #Golf #Rory

@MarkTMeredith As an advisor that both consults for RE investors (tax advisor) & CFP, I haven't seen but one make big $ on RE. Conversely, he was also terrible at investing in the markets, so it cuts both ways. Also, many HNW are not able to benefit from losses...

One common mistake I see HNW investors make is trying to diversify beyond the stock market into single family rentals (SFRs), because they think they'll generate higher returns with lower risks. The house doesn't fluctuate on a screen. So it feels safer. It isn't. What rarely gets modeled properly upfront: → True vacancy rates (not best-case) → Real maintenance costs → The dollar value of your own time → The management fees you will pay to someone else when you get sick of dealing with it → Real estate transaction costs → Rent increases (you can't just model it you have to do it) After a full accounting (which often is not done properly either), net SFR yields often disappoint relative to what a simple equity portfolio would have compounded to over the same period, which requires very little work. For the investors who can do SFRs well, they really can be a great investment but it certainly takes a commitment.

@wlthyaccountant ... What they need, and can't keep track of things, and it's a recipe for disaster. It's a compressed "tax plan" worthy of high fees, especially if people aren't organized or need additional "babysitting."

@wlthyaccountant The issues is it's a "surge model" where even basic returns are becoming complicated through the political football of ever changing tax code. Add on that clients are inherently bad at staying organized, do not have systems that align with ours for submission, & rarely know...
