The Sun Darkening Event of the Year 660 AD and The Fall of Baekje 百濟 - Both “The Old Book of Tang 舊唐書” & “The New Book of Tang 新唐書” report that “on the 1st day of the 6th month 六月庚午朔, the Sun was Devoured/Obscured 日有食之.” All the events in this post are dated to have occurred in the 5th year of the “Xianqing 顯慶” era, which lasted from 656 AD – 661 AD. This is how the Tang annals are dated. Xianqing 5 would thus correspond as mid-February of 660 AD to early-February of 661 AD in Gregorian reckoning. My main goal is to demonstrate that Baekje was severely weakened by “(un)natural disasters” prior to any foreign invasion by the Tang navy or Silla army. Timeline: ⚫️ “2nd (Lunar) Month” [Mid-March to Mid April] - “The water in the capital’s wells turned as red as blood. Numerous small fish came out and died on the shores of the West Sea, and although the local population ate of the fish, they were unable to consume them all. The waters of the Sabi River also turned red like blood.” - Baekje Annals of the Samguk Sagi [B.A.S.S] ⚫️ “3rd (Lunar) Month” [Mid-April to Mid May] - General Su DingFang of Tang has just returned to the capital after successful military campaigns in Central Asia. He is then instructed by Emperor Gaozong to mobilize troops for an eastern campaign against Baekje. This is what the yellow 🟨 highlighted portions of both pages (attached images) are talking about. - Me ⚫️ “4th (Lunar) Month” [Mid-May to Mid-June] “Toads by the tens of thousands gathered in the treetops. Residents of the capital became terrified and took flight without apparent cause. Like people who have been taken captive, more than a hundred of them fell to the ground and died, while those who in their confusion mislaid their possessions were beyond numbering.” - [B.A.S.S] ⚫️ “5th (Lunar) Month” [Mid-June to Mid-July] “There was a sudden onslaught of wind and rain, and an earthquake shook the pagodas of the Ch’ŏn-wang-sa and Toyang-sa. Then another earthquake caused the lecture hall of the Paeksŏk-sa to tremble as well. Dark clouds resembling dragons clashed together in the sky to the east and to the west.” - [B.A.S.S] ⚫️ “6th (Lunar) Month” [Mid-July to Mid-August] “六月庚午朔,日有蝕之 On the 1st Day of the 6th month, the Sun was Devoured/Obscured.” - Old Book of Tang “六月庚午朔,日有食之 On the 1st Day of the 6th month, the Sun was Devoured/Obscured.” - New Book of Tang This is what the red 🟥 highlighted portions of both pages (attached images) are. It is my understanding that 蝕 and 食 have essentially the same meaning, only that 食 is the older of the two. - Me ⚫️ “7th (Lunar) Month” [Mid-August to Mid-September] “According to the account of the Silla Annals, the attack on the Paekche capital began on the twelfth day of the seventh lunar month (August 23, 660), and on the following day Ŭija fled northwards, the text further specifying that he sought refuge at Ungjin Fortress (the site of Paekche’s former capital located at present-day Kongju). See SGSG 5.55 (Muyŏl 7:7:12). The Nihon shoki agrees that the victory of the T’ang and Silla troops over Paekche’s forces at Sabi occurred during the seventh lunar month of 660; see NS 26.344–45 (Saimei 6:7), and Aston, trans. (1896), 2:266.” - J. W. Best This is what the blue 🟦 highlighted portions of both pages (attached images) are talking about, even though they are dated later in the year, to when Baekje was already defeated. —- Sources - The attached page scans are from the Hathitrust.org searchable collection - Jiu Tang shu: [200 juan]. My newest blog is out now on eltruedinero.com, where I break down the fascinating rise and fall of the Rouran Khaganate Empire’s monetary system and what it teaches us about the enduring power of Gold and Silver as real money. In this post, you’ll discover how this powerful nomadic empire used precious metals to facilitate trade across the Eurasian steppe, maintain economic stability, and build wealth—until shifting political power and changing economic conditions contributed to its decline. Their story is a powerful reminder that throughout history, civilizations have trusted Gold and Silver as reliable stores of value when currencies and empires rise and fall. Visit eltruedinero.com to read the full blog, and remember that I publish a brand-new post every Monday exploring the monetary systems of past empires and the lessons they hold for protecting wealth today. And if you’re ready to take action now, click the link below to start securing your financial future. ➡️bitira.go2cloud.org/aff_c?offer_id…⬅️

A must read - Horesh, Niv. 2014. Chinese Money in Global Context : Historic Junctures between 600 BCE and 2012. Stanford, California: Stanford University Press. "Even more important perhaps is the fact that it is during this very period (late fourth to mid-third centuries BCE) that the Chinese War-ring States, especially Qin and Zhao, were most open and receptive to influences from the steppe. King Wuling of Zhao (325–299 BCE), right after the death of Alexander in the West, would scandalize more conser-vative states to the east by adopting so-called Hu (that is, nomadic Inner Asian steppe) customs and even clothing in an effort to update his mili-tary along the lines of steppe cavalry. Such was the prevailing mood in these western and northern Warring States, and it is entirely probable that currency reforms in imitation of practices found in Bactria (that is, round coinage) and possibly also among the Yuezhi may have taken place in Qin, which was the closest of the Warring States to the Yuezhi." ----------

Chinese history books that I've read in the past month, quick reviews: Like other entries in Harvard's series, "China's Last Empire" offers a broad overview of the dynasty in chapters divided by theme, such as social life, trade, wars, etc. A good introduction to the Qing. "Diary of a Manchu Soldier" is a short book, only a 100 pages (half of which is the introduction), about the Three Feudatories Rebellion. Aside from presenting an interesting primary source in English, the introduction does a great job of explaining the rise of the Qing Dynasty and the history of the rebellion. "The Southern Ming" is a rather dense book best suited for specialists and those looking to read indepth about the Ming-Qing transition era. Lastly, "City of Heavenly Tranquility" is a great journalistic book about the history of Beijing and its transformation under the PRC. Each chapter is its unique story, examining a specific aspect of Beijing. As someone who has been there more than once, it's a nice accompaniment to what I've seen while travelling

As an introduction to Chinese history, I would recommend Harvard's series on China's dynasties (I've read all except the Ming book) Each volume examines the dynasty's rise, economy, social & cultural life, wars & rebellions and fall Each one is about 300 pages, easy to read

Christianity arrived in Southeast Asia in two distinct waves separated by over a thousand years. The first was Nestorian Christianity, which reached as far as China and possibly Vietnam along the Silk Road trade routes by the 7th and 8th centuries, leaving almost no lasting trace. The second and decisive wave came with the Portuguese in the 16th century, beginning with the conquest of Malacca in 1511, followed by Spanish colonization of the Philippines from 1565 onward. The Philippines became and remains the only majority Christian nation in Asia, converted so thoroughly that today it sends Catholic missionaries to other countries, reversing the original colonial direction of the faith entirely. The detail worth knowing is that conversion in the Philippines succeeded largely because Spanish missionaries learned local languages and translated scripture into Tagalog and Visayan, while in most of mainland Southeast Asia Buddhism and Islam were already too deeply institutionalized for Christianity to displace them.

Three independent data sets… You will hear the entire history of the Phoenix, every year it appeared and what happened…a massive corpus of sources that produces a very specific list of numbers… You will hear from the pens of ancient writers and others of a specific belief in a cycle of world-destroying destructions that reset civilizations and you will recognize these numbers… You will see that every one of the numbers in the first two data sets taken from hundreds of historic texts, translations, monuments and authors are found perfectly laid out in the measurements of the Ark of Enoch…known as the Great Pyramid. Three independent data sets collide at the year of our calendar, 2040. Virtually everything you have ever been told about the artifacts at Giza are wrong. "Japan" as in "Nippon" is a naming convention that began in the 7th century AD. The narrative of the foundation of the Yamato dynasty and "emperor Jimmu" comes from 8th century AD chronicles. Okimi (Great King) Tenji was king in 661 AD. He was the final king of the Yamato dynasty and was likewise the very first Emperor (Tenno) of "Japan."

What makes America great isn't just that we can kill & destroy other nations with ease, it's the fact that after blowing you up, we will do business with you until you become great as well. We nuked Japan and propped up their economy until they became a first-world nation. We paid for the rebuilding of Western Europe. After Russia and Ukraine stop killing each other, we will step in and invest heavily in both countries. The smart thing to do is align yourself appropriately.

@boss_aesop @jezzle9 @MathewLiamSousa @PsionicSchizo @TheChiefNerd Cyrus is attested in the archaeological & historical record. From an archaeological standpoint, there is nothing in Japan that correlates to "Emperor Jimmu" that dates to the BC era. The yamato dynasty that jimmu supposedly founded is really an event of the late 4th century AD.

@EdoEraPervert @BenPhel62307928 @bunburyoudoujp Nestorian Christians, Persians, Indians, & Sogdians were in Japan before the Nihon Shoki or Kojiki were written. “Emperor Jimmu” is a backdated character from the actual founder, Okimi (Great King) Homuda. King Tenji (661 AD) was the final Okimi and the first Tenno (Emperor.)

May 11th, 2024 - I made my very first post here on X. What topic was that post about? It was about the year 660 AD and the "First Emperor" of Japan. 671 days and 100+ unique original research posts later, I am making this post with the exact same message and energy as my very first post. The only thing that has changed, is that I have acquired a much more comprehensive understanding of the year 660 AD now. --------------------- The year 660 AD is the most important year to understand in Japanese history. Period. End of story. I saw the signs back then and my position about that has only increased 100 fold with my additional almost 2 years of heavy research. 660 AD was exactly 270 years after the Foundation of the "Yamato Dynasty" by King Homuda, in 390 AD. 660 AD was exactly 120 years after a new dynastic line began that was not of the direct lineage of the Founder Homuda, in 540 AD. 660 AD converted into months would be 7920 months, this denotes that both evil and disasters were themes of this year. 660 AD was the cataclysmic end of the Baekje Kingdom which was a vast maritime empire. The same empire that birthed the "Yamato Dynasty" that was founded by Homuda of Baekje. 660 AD and the Fall of Baekje in that year, initiates the collapse of "Yamato Kingship" and begins the system of Emperors ruling on the Japanese islands. King Tenji, who ascended in 661 AD was thus the Final King of the Yamato Dynasty and likewise became the very first "Emperor of Japan." 660 AD marks the great partition of Japanese history from beginning to end, and very specifically the Sun Darkening Event on the 1st Day of the 6th Lunar Month as reported in the Tang Annals for that year. The earliest mythological beginnings of "Emperor Jimmu" can only go back as far as the year 721 BC. A full 1380 years later from that date would be when the true first Emperor began ruling after 660 AD. It will then likewise be a complete 1380 years after 660 AD that the Emperor system in Japan will collapse in 2040 AD, which is also the 2700th year of imperial koki reckoning. 660 AD being 270 years from 390 AD and the events described above that occupy them is simply a template of what will happen in the 2700th year after the mythological foundation of the Yamato dynasty by the first Emperor, Jimmu, in 660 BC. The date of 2700 koki/2040 AD as the collapse of the Emperor system in Japan is also supported by Yellow emperor reckoning. The mythological beginning the reign of the Yellow Emperor was in 2699 BC (basically 2700 years.) It is then in the 2040th year after his ascension that the mythological ascension of the first Emperor of Japan began in 660 BC. The duration in time of 2040 years is thus connected to beginnings and ends of dynasties. Everything an ordinary person knows about Japan, is from a post-660 AD context, not prior, when Kings ruled the Japanese islands. Even the modern name "Nippon," only applies after 660 AD. It was a completely different world prior to this monumental year. ------------------- The video attached is Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix (Hinotori) anime Opening and Ending. His life's work and research culminated when he covered the aftermath of the year 660 AD. He incorporated this research into his Phoenix Manga chapters named "Sun," originally published between 1986-1988 (which has an anime adaptation by the same name.) It would be his Final Phoenix chapter as he would die the following year. ------------------------- ------------------------- youtu.be/Cldzh241Fb0

The Han were able to maintain long-term control over northern Vietnam, but not Korea, because northern Vietnam was easier to transform into an administered province, whereas in Korea the Han presence remained a military and colonial bridgehead around Lelang, which was quickly confronted with the rise of Korean states capable of destroying it. 🧶

The supposed attributed events of King You’s reign are not the best examples for the point you want to make - You left out the beginning part of that ode which demonstrates that the celestial events (above) began prior to the reactions (below.) Also, events attributed to King You’s reign cannot be fully trusted. They are clearly manipulated by later scribes to achieve a certain outcome. Also, is not @JeffreyKotyk himself that demonstrates in his books, that material related to personal astrological readings in China doesn’t really become popular until the 6th/7th/8th centuries AD, when Iranian/Sogdian/Indian concepts flood the literary scene in China? Fanatic religionists are the same in any time period, so of course they are going to claim that human actions affect the sky and in doing so try to gain power and influence that way.

An Announcement of Evil! The Time When the Sun and Moon Deviated From Their Natural Courses. According to the "Book of Poetry 詩經" in an ode attributed to the Final King of the Western Zhou Dynasty - 十月之交、朔日辛卯。 日有食之、亦孔之醜。 彼月而微、此日而微。 今此下民、亦孔之哀。 "At the conjunction of the sun and moon in the tenth month, On the first day of the moon, which was hsin-mâo, The sun was eclipsed, A thing of very evil omen. Before, the moon became small, And now the sun became small. Henceforth the lower people Will be in a very deplorable case." 日月告凶、不用其行。 四國無政、不用其良。 彼月而食、則維其常。 此日而食、于何不臧。 "The sun and moon announce evil, Not keeping to their proper paths. Throughout the kingdom there is no (proper) government, Because the good are not employed. For the moon to be eclipsed Is but an ordinary matter. Now that the sun has been eclipsed,-- How bad it is!" 㷸㷸震電、不寧不令。 百川沸騰、山冢崒崩。 高岸為谷、深谷為陵。 哀今之人、胡憯莫懲。 "Grandly flashes the lightning of the thunder. There is a want of rest, a want of good. The streams all bubble up and overflow. The crags on the hill-tops fall down. High banks become valleys; Deep valleys become hills. Alas for the men of this time! How does (the king) not stop these things?" Full Citation - James Legge, trans., The Sacred Books of China: The Texts of Confucianism, Part I, vol. 3 of The Sacred Books of the East, ed. F. Max Müller (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1879), 355 (Minor Odes, Decade 4, Ode 9) --------------------- My commentary - This ode is normally attributed to - King You 幽王 (traditionally dated reign dates of 781 BC - 771 BC) He was the Final King of the "Western Zhou Dynasty" before it was partitioned and the royal court moved to the east by King Ping 平王. I believe the Sun and Moon deviating from their natural courses is a genuine event of the 8th Century BC, though not one associated with King You. I have many points I want to draw attention to. --------------------- Point Number 1 - I want to bring special attention to the phrase - "日有食之" James Legge translates this as - "The sun was eclipsed" I very much dislike the use of the word "eclipse." Because when it is used in the English speaking world, most people would automatically assume the following - "The sun was eclipsed (by the moon)" But that is not what this phrase says, a more accurate translation, into English, would be - "The sun was eaten" The radical - 食 means "to eat/devour/consume" The Moon is not the only celestial body capable of "eclipsing" the Sun, even though it is the body that does so the most often. Scholars have tried to used astronomical computer computations to try to date these kind of events on the assumption that these events are always referring to the Moon eclipsing the Sun. --------------------- Point Number 2 - Given the above point I made. The problem of using astronomical computer computations to calculate events in the past, is exasterbasted, as this event demonstrates that the SUN and MOON, in the past, have deviated from their natural courses. This would disrupt all modern assumptions that our sky of today was the same sky of 3000 years ago. ---------------------- Point Number 3 - The Final King of the Dynasty was Evil/Negligent/Irresponsible/Reckless Trope of Chinese History. Once again do we have evidence that the events that occurred during the reign of King You has been altered/fabricated/exaggerated. His use of watch tower fire beacons have been singled out as one that could not have been in use during his reign. He is normally attributed the dates 781-771 BC, BUT EVEN THESE ARE QUESTIONED, because of their reliance on the eclipse computation in his 6th year pinning it to 776 BC. --------------------- One thing is clear - The historical record of China, PRIOR, to the 8th Century BC (700's BC) cannot be dated using modern astronomical computer computations. -------

I presented on this manuscript in Utrecht. Basically, in Chinese omenology, human activities on earth are reflected in the heavens, rather than the reverse. I pointed out how this differs from Platonic concepts of the forms being expressed in material reality.

The average Japanese person or X user will not likely know such things tbh. I'm surprised that you would know such a thing and that even though Yamato kingship ended with Tenji it was him that initiated the changeover to the Emperor system. So in the end, it was still the same family. This a high level academic discussion. –------------ I dont know anything about Benin Kingship other than the Wikipedia article I just skimmed through just now... are you saying that it was still the same family?

I watched with amusement the drama unfolding in Oyo State between the State Government and Alaafin Owoade Elewu Ettu 1. Suddenly, Alaafin Owoade who was dragging superiority with Oon Ọjájá II found troubles nearer home with Olubadan Ladoja and even much nearer home in Àgọ́ Ọjà right under his nose. There are a few things I however don't think I understand about the Oyo Alaafin Throne and I wouldn't mind some enlightenment 1. Ọ̀rànmìyàn was Oduduwa's son or grandson. He was born in Ile-ife He went to Igodomigodo land, waged wars of conquest or, as some historians say, was invited by those people to organise their Government for them. He became first Ọba of Bini. At some point he had MARRIED A BINI WOMAN who gave him Iweka whose lineage has produced the On of Bini till today. Centuries later the same Bini people came to harass the Aworis of Lagos. Another Prince of Awori had married a BINI WOMAN and ADO, the product of that marriage is the lineage which has been producing Obas of Èkó. Ọ̀rànmìyàn and the Aworis were both from ILÉ-IFÈ. 2. Ọ̀rànmìyàn returned to Ilé-ifè only to chase out Ọbalùfọ̀n Aláyémọrẹ, the sitting and 3rd Oonirisa Ilé-ifè. He took the Throne and became 4th Ooni Ile-ife. He soon left, this time up North. He went to the location which is generally under today's Kwara State, somewhere near the Niger River. The area was then NUPE land of the Borgu people. He went there and somehow established a Kingdom. At some point he MARRIED a NUPE WOMAN who gave him children including Àjàká, Sàngó etc. When Sàngó was going to marry he went to his mother's NUPE land to get ỌYA for wife. It is the reason River Niger is called Odò Ọya and the Northern is called Òkè Ọya because it is beyond the River Niger. Effectively the NUPE people already took control of the Alaafin Throne. At the end, Ọ̀rànmìyàn was buried in Ile-ife. 3. The long period of inter-ethnic marriages between Hausa, Nupe and Yoruba may have created the Baruba tribe which is also part of today's Kwara. All of these were over many centuries ago. The Fulanis met them on it. The Arabians met them The Europeans met them. BANDITRY AND EXTORTION aka Empire building became the order and SLAVE TRADE was the mainstay of the Oyo economy. What is known as Oyo Empire was outrigh Banditry just as we have the Fulanis rebuilding it all over the country today. 4. Eventually the Baruba and Nupe people connived with the Fulanis to route out Oramiyan's descendants from the place called Old Ọ̀yọ́ or Ọ̀yọ́ Ilé. That was sometime in the 19th century, 1835 perhaps. The Alaafin moved down to Òkè Ògùn areas. 5. Thinking about it now it is likely that the Alaafins who got unceremoniously removed from power, murdered, exiled or other maltreated - and there were many of them - were the ones who didn't come from the lineage of the NUPE woman. I think the Nupe/Fulani alliance have been controlling Oyo and Alaafin for long and it may just be the issue he had with Aàrẹ Onakakanfo Àfọ̀njá stationed in Ilorin. 6. Eventually Alaafin Atiba moved to the current site of Oyo and stayed put. Meanwhile Àgọ́ Ọjà and the people on it have always been there and they traced their roots to Ile-ife.. The people of Aawe around that same place traced their roots to Ile-ife. The founders of Ibadan traced their roots to Ile-ife. Ijebu, Remo and Aworis all traced their roots to Ile-ife. 7. The concern for me now is the extensive mix-up of Kóòtú Òjíire with Baruba, Nupe and Fulani in the composition of the Alaafin of Oyo. The descendants of Oranmiyan had gotten themselves mixed up with Nupes, Fulanis, Barubas untll we can't be very sure of the Yorubaness of the Alaafin himself It is even intriguing that Gani Adams is rumoured to have NUPE ancestry I have read somewhere that the Bashoruns of Oyo including the notorious Bashorun Gaa have always been of NUPE ancestry.../
