They expect us to praise a ‘democracy’ whose leaders serve the cause of private financial appropriation so assiduously that they would astonish Marx himself-Marx who was already calling governments as “Capital’s executives” 160 years ago?-Alain Badiou

This claim is misleading and partly false—it mixes a real vote with incorrect framing. Let’s break it down clearly: ✅ What actually happened In September 2021, the U.S. House voted on a $1 billion funding bill for Israel’s Iron Dome system. American Friends Service Committee +1 The funding was specifically to replenish Iron Dome interceptors after the Gaza conflict. Axios Iron Dome is a missile defense system designed to intercept rockets, not carry out attacks. American Jewish Committee ❗ What about AOC’s vote? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did NOT vote in favor of that $1 billion bill. She voted “present” (neutral), not “yes.” Ocasio-Cortez Forms She also publicly said she opposed the bill but chose “present” due to political/legislative circumstances. Ocasio-Cortez Forms ❌ Misleading parts of the claim Saying she “voted to give Israel $1 billion” → False → She did not vote yes Saying the money was for “offensive weapons” → Incorrect framing → The $1B bill was for Iron Dome (defensive system), not bombs or offensive strikes Linking it directly to “Operation Guardian of the Walls” bombing campaign → Misleading → The funding came after the conflict and was mainly for defensive replenishment, not funding the bombing itself

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇱 FACT: AOC voted to give Israel $1 BILLION (partially for OFFENSIVE WEAPONS) in 2021 The funding was allocated to Israel’s “Operation Guardian of the Walls” — a bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip

@KraushTakes Bowman met with DSA and made promises and then attended a J-Street event two days later.

Bowman also changed his position after being appalled by what he saw during his trip to Israel, and years of conversations w/ comrades continuing to work with him. Just because we don't emphasize condemnations and statements doesn't mean NYC-DSA does not care about discipline.

BREAKING: At tonight’s NYC-DSA electoral forum, @AOC committed to voting against “any spending on arms for Israel, including so-called defensive capabilities.”

@makebasmoon she did! She committed a full arms embargo and no money for defensive weapons. She has not voted for Iron Dome previously, she just had a bad position on it. Im glad that she has taken the right position now

This is huge. Not only is this the morally correct position, its the politically correct one too. There is no coalition for president that can be assembled without opposing money for Israeli, apartheid and genocide of palestinians. So proud this commitment was made on a DSA call

He is a Tankie that defends people like Lenin and Mao He spent 2021/2022 denying Russia was going to invade Ukraine He refuses to respect Taiwan’s independence. He won’t speak up for Hong Kong At least on foreign policy - he sucks and I will not ally with him. Period.

CNN calling Hasan ‘far left’ is schizo. It’s like when Chris Matthews said Bernie would chop off heads in Central Park. Hasan is actually a highly conciliatory social democrat. I see him as moderate. The entire spectrum is wrong and disingenuous.

🕵️ New: U.S. embassies to coordinate with Pentagon psy-ops unit and Elon Musk: 🔹Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a cable Monday ordering all U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide to run coordinated campaigns against what it calls foreign “anti-American propaganda,” according to The Guardian. 🔹Embassies are instructed to recruit local influencers, academics, and community leaders to spread messaging that appears locally driven rather than directed by Washington. The cable also promotes X’s “Community Notes” feature as a crowdsourced way to counter anti-American narratives “without compromising free speech or privacy.” 🔹The directive tells diplomats to work with the U.S. military’s psychological operations unit and use X—owned by Elon Musk—as a key tool, describing it as an “innovative” way to counter disinformation.

Hot take: being able to communicate ideas simply, like a normal f*cking person, is a form of intelligence. I’m not that interested in philosophers who make esoteric statements all day in the most confused & obscure way possible, to the point where they would sound like a schizophrenic person to the average construction worker. Talk like a normal guy. You just come off as annoying and pompous to anyone who isn’t in your obscure bubble. Making statements that most people can’t decipher isn’t a form of intelligence. Points for anyone who can guess which philosopher inspired this post.

@joewrote @snackvampire It’s not a Trot argument, SPD candidates and Bolshevik politicians in the Tsarist Duma were held to strict discipline, not just what they voted on but their rhetoric. Neither were Trots lol

@snackvampire Yes. Where Kate and I differ (and where you seem to agree with her) is that the lagging rhetorical should guide socialists’ view of AOC, as opposed to AOC’s voting record. Kate’s argument is the Trotskyist argument. She just doesn’t realize it.

I don’t want to hear anymore “ultra-leftism isn’t real.” Kate is explicitly arguing for the neo-Trotskyist position – even though AOC’s I/P voting record is good, we should view her negatively because (some) of her statements we’re bad. Explicit ultraism.
Kate Willett@katewillett

“…there aren’t enough socialists in congress to make voting differences.” Correct. Until this changes, a federal SIO’s means of enacting change is the bully pulpit. She’s done a great job using her platform to call out billionaires. An awkwardly, to oppose an arms embargo.
