The consequence of pretending airborne things aren't (see wired.com/story/the-teen…) is a lack of data on the best ways to prevent transmission. For those of you interested, the best numbers we have on Neisseria meningitidis put it at around 2-log inactivation with 3–4 mJ/cm² of 254nm UVC- (and a whole raft of caveats too long to get into, those aren't solid numbers). No one wants to admit airborne is a dominant mode of transmission because that means nearly all indoor spaces made in the last 100 years are unsafe without extreme retrofitting, but if they ever swallow that pill, there's a lot of catching up to do with research. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/jb… onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ap…

I'm a bit embarrassed about posting this because I recorded it in a hurry during a busy week, and did it off the cuff without notes to reproduce that live spaces feel, but I know some people missed it and wanted to hear it, so here it is with subs.

Since we could not afford to manufacture the emitter with the integrated catalyst ourselves, instead of retaining the IP like any other rational company would have done- we put it into the public domain so other manufacturers could use it to make safer products for the public: x.com/NukitToBeSure/… Which, several months later, they did, just testing it only with Ushio emitters- not Nukit's working unit: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac… ...and crediting everyone but Nukit, of course, who first publicly implemented and demonstrated it. #_i22" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac… In case this seems familiar, yes, this is exactly what was done with microwave proximity sensing and PTFE reflectors: PTFE in August 2022: x.com/NukitToBeSure/… x.com/NukitToBeSure/… Ushio in September 2022 ushio.com/wp-content/upl… Microwave proximity sensing in October 2023: x.com/NukitToBeSure/… And then OSLUV decided to implement it only for Ushio, with no attribution: x.com/NukitToBeSure/… x.com/NukitToBeSure/… Every time, we show it first, then a few months later, Ushio / OSLUV / Blueprintbio pretend it is "obvious" and use it without any mention or attribution because of their discomfort with the source (see longstanding issue: It's all about merit, until merit has tits). Although oddly enough, since we've stopped posting our "obvious" innovations, they haven't had a single original idea🤔 Of course, despite the fact that Ushio was handed the solution to their ozone problem for free, and then gifted a lengthy research study with only their emitter tested to validate it, they have shown no intention of implementing it when they can just lobby against any reasonable regulation.

@simmian42 @DrInfoSec I appreciate it. I need someone to manage and coordinate specialist appointments, follow ups, and strategize for what specialists to seek and what rehab to pursue. Not in-home care

I'm looking to hire someone to coordinate my wife's care. I'm looking to pay $50-$150 an hour, 10-15 hours per month. Looking for someone who specifically has experience with stroke patients under the age of 50. If that's you or you know someone, please send me a DM. US only.

Yeah @ukhadds published it, right? I was already working on this, so I figured I would just publish it and recalibrate later. There will always be moving parts.. you can never fully rely on risk calculations & data modelers are always going to tinker, tweak, optimize… In CO₂ mode, it’s one of the dominant drivers. In room mode, it isn’t used at all. I think I can make this more sensitive, but today, it’s just a limitation.

1/ I built a free, browser-based tool for estimating your probability of airborne SARS-CoV-2 infection during indoor events, using either a CO₂ monitor reading or room-type estimates. It's heavily based on the PMC Technical Appendix framework developed by @MichaelHoerger and colleagues. Mike, I'd genuinely welcome your eyes on this. 🧵

Thanks to @NukitToBeSure who kindly loaned me the UV spectrometer to do some Far UV testing. I'm running it through its paces on regular UVC to start to get some benchmarks. Shoutout to @ThisHouseFresh for getting the meter out to me. I own a similar meter that does UV A, B, C, and visible light, but doesn't go into the Far UV range like the one from @NukitToBeSure does. I previously tested the Wellbefore sanitizer with my unit, but the results seemed odd so I wanted to double check with a dedicated UV spectrometer before talking about the results.

This is Rodney Taylor, a disabled double amputee who’s been imprisoned by ICE for a year. He was about to get new prosthetic legs when he was kidnapped… and they won’t let him have them. His health is declining & there’s been almost no media coverage. No protests. No noise.

New paper, lot of interesting points, great dicussion: A novel aerosol induction-removal system for mitigating airborne disease transmission in shared indoor environments sciencedirect.com/science/articl… TLDR; The overall premise is that instead of one person having localized/wearable filtration that blows clean air at their face, everyone in the room should have localized extraction that sucks up their exhalations and removes any harmful bioaerosols before the other room occupants can inhale it. Of course, this doesn't work with wearables because if you can’t get everyone to wear masks to protect themselves and everyone else, you probably can’t get everyone to wear an exhalation sucker to protect everyone. But it’s still useful data. Some highlights: Yes, we were correct in that enhanced transmission with directed air jets is a concern: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Yes, face-directed air flow high enough to mitigate transmission can cause eye and skin dryness: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… The paper appears to validate the previously speculated on “Korean BBQ” model of mitigation through localized extraction of bioaerosols rising on a thermal plume: x.com/RealSexyCyborg… Which, while not wearable, could be quite promising as it’s fairly easy to implement. Although I suspect it probably underperforms a comparably priced Far-UVC emitter in the same location between individuals. x.com/NukitToBeSure/… It makes me wonder what the effect of simply taking existing airline gasper infrastructure (the little air jet above your head) and reversing it to pull instead of push, and the floor vents to push instead of pull, might be? (I'd like to say this validates ceiling-mounted filtration like the Tempest Pro but I have zero data to support that and no reason to think the suction is strong enough to matter, but it would be interesting to model at some point.)

Post 71 — H5N1: wild birds are not just vectors, they are the system H5N1 panzootic can no longer be explained as a series of isolated outbreaks. Recent evidence reveals integrated ecological system in which wild birds shape viral persistence, evolution, and global spread. 1/11

Each Torch 2 will come with the single unit carrying case on the right, but if you buy two, you also get the twin carrying case on the left. Both cases come with a shoulder strap.

As influenza A overwhelms hospitals, I don’t think people remember this... “As levels of the marker for influenza A viruses began to rise in early March, the markers for the H5 viruses began to rise in tandem. The concentration of the H5 gene in the samples was nearly as high as the concentration of the influenza A viruses overall, suggesting that a large fraction of the viruses in the samples were H5N1.” 🧵

A neat trick is that the Torch 2 has twice the total radiant power output as one Lantern- but the ACGIH Minimum Continuous Exposure Distance is just 36 cm (14.2 in), so it's extremely safe and perfect for tabletop or automotive use. (Can't wait to see who gets funding and credit for recreating our work on this without attribution).
Nukit@NukitToBeSure

Sure, the ACGIH Minimum Continuous-Exposure Distance for the Lantern is 68cm. The recommended mounting height is 2.5m, tilted downward at a 45º angle. To exceed that, you would need a very tall person to stand and stare directly up at it for almost eight hours. If you have a lower ceiling, you can substitute horizontal distance for vertical- put them over a dresser or TV, anything that makes standing under them with your eyes closer than 68cm difficult.
