There is nothing more pathetic or contemptible than watching Russians launch what they thought would be a short splendid war to crush Ukraine in a matter of days, only to fail spectacularly in their blitzkrieg. They wiped entire Ukrainian cities and regions off the face of the earth, committed an unimaginable number of war crimes, plunged Ukraine into darkness and freezing cold during the harshest winter on record, spent years bringing down apartment buildings with sleeping families inside night after night, destroyed supermarkets, children’s hospitals, theaters, and libraries, historic monuments, churches, and cathedrals, murdered people, beheaded and castrated prisoners of war on camera, executed and burned civilians, tortured them, and left mass graves behind. And now they are hysterically wringing their hands and crying to the heavens because Ukraine is burning down warehouses full of Chinese junk meant for online sales. “Why is this happening to us? How can there ever be peace with this Ukraine? They hate us!” Fucking disgusting and pathetic.

Regarding Fedorov, it genuinely makes little sense to me. You appoint someone widely credited with driving some of the most significant defence reforms in years, helping accelerate innovation and Ukraine’s defence capabilities, only to remove him six months later? So far, neither President Zelensky nor the Presidential Office has publicly explained the reasoning behind that decision. Until they do, it’s difficult to understand the logic.

@thegauguy Fedorov said it himself, it was the conflict with Sirsky. He wanted Sirsky to be dismissed. In the end Sirsky won.

So I'm speculating: Has anyone ever thought about the fact that the main reason for Fedorov's dismissal is that he became too popular both nationally and internationally and Zelenskyy wants to keep possible successors as small as possible?

@ChristopherJM Fundamentally I support these protests, but is a military officer allowed to resign in the middle of a war? I would think most you can do is request your resignation, which might then be denied.

This is shocking. At an EU Foreign Affairs Committee meeting, Lynn Boylan lamented that it was “a pity we can’t use our own language.” When it was pointed out that she could, in fact, speak Irish, she backtracked almost instantly: "I wasn’t prepared, so I’ll use English."

I'm usually not in favour of these things, but plenty of Western Ministers of Defence's as well as Presidents and Chancellors MUST call Zelenskyy ASAP and pressure him to not relief Fedorov of his duties. He is going to make one of the biggest mistakes since February 2022.

Frankly unacceptable and I think there should be foreign pressure against his dismissal if these claims are true: “But defence industry officials, senior Ukrainian officials, MPs from Zelenskyy’s party and others familiar with the matter have said — some publicly — that Fedorov had been a barrier to interests seeking to profit from Ukraine’s vast wartime defence budget… Fedorov repeatedly blocked attempts to steer lucrative procurement contracts to favoured companies, which put him at odds with powerful figures inside Ukraine’s political and defence establishment, said people familiar with the situation.”

Giving up Ukraine's best defensive positions will help him a lot on the way. Noone believes in taking territory back, Ukrainians want freezing at current line.

The house has been robbed a long time ago, and taking it all back is not an option unless we can send you and other like minded minds as cannon fodder. There is a limit to how many you can sacrifice. Some rooms of the house have been taken, and won't go back to the owner. Trump has made this clear from the beginning. There is no way you get all territory back. It would mean so much more lives, money and time that needs to be sacrificed. That's never ever gonna happen. So the compromise is on the table that already Russian speaking Donbass is going to stay Russian. And the deal is a buffer between these zones. That's it. You can jump high or low if you want more, but I suggest you voluntarily go to the front lines and fight for it. ❗️Drone Route to the Omsk Oil Refinery After analyzing Russian monitoring channels and local chat groups, we reconstructed the following route. Kazan was the last point where the Russians still had any meaningful air defense coverage and radar tracking. Once the drones passed that area, all information about them disappeared. Russian monitoring channels simply "lost" the drones and from that point onward issued only yellow alerts (potential UAV threat without confirmed tracking). This says a great deal about the actual state of Russian air defenses along the rest of the route. The drones covered approximately 2,800–3,000 km, depending on the estimate. The strike involved upgraded FP-1 attack drones equipped with redesigned wings that were longer and featured a modified aerodynamic profile. According to eyewitness reports and available footage, there were seven impacts at the Omsk Oil Refinery, including hits on two distillation columns. Russian forces reportedly deployed an A-50 AEW&C aircraft to provide radar support and a Su-57 fighter in an attempt to intercept the drones. Based on currently available information, only one out of eight drones was shot down. There was no meaningful air defense around the target. No surface-to-air missile launches or air defense systems were observed in operation—only small-arms fire. The drones approached the facility with little interference, arriving one after another. Even the protective netting that Russian forces had installed around parts of the refinery proved ineffective. They were well aware that this facility was a potential target. It was the only major refinery that had not yet been struck and one of Russia's key fuel production sites, supplying many regions across the country. Either they did not believe Ukrainian drones were capable of flying more than 2,500 km, or they placed too much confidence in those protective nets. I won't go into detail about the route itself. I'll simply say that it reflects a well-planned and carefully executed long-range strike operation. I have not yet seen any detailed Russian analysis of the mission, and there is no reason to reveal our own. Excellent work. ⚡️
