@ZakeryMizell @bnielson01 Not sure how one attitude is better than the other or even how any of those three statements are more important than each other. You need to use all the tools you can to make good theories of the world. A raven is a theory and so is the color black for one as well.

There is a logical asymmetry between refutation and verification. This is my understanding from listening to Bruce's @bnielson01 explanation. Universal Statements imply Singular Statements which imply Existential Statements. Universal Statement (Falsifiable): All ravens are black Singular Statement (Decidable): This raven is black Existential Statement (Verifiable): There exists a raven that is black Singular Statements are decidable, in that they can be compared to reality via observational statements, and then falsified or verified. One may say “This raven is black,” and then observe whether or not the raven is black. Universal Statements can imply an infinity of Singular Statements. If one of the Singular Statements is falsified, it falsifies the Universal Statement. However, given the infinity of Singular Statements, a Universal Statement can never be verified. No amount of black ravens will prove the Universal Statement, “All ravens are black,” but one pink raven will refute the universal. Existential Statements do not imply any Singular Statements, so it is difficult to compare this to reality. Finding any number of pink ravens will not interact with the Existential Statement, it is in fact unfalsifiable. But if one Singular Statement that would imply the Existential Statement is verified, then the Existential Statement is verified. Finding a black raven will verify “There exists a raven that is black.” Universal Statements logically imply, are thus logically stronger than, the Singular or Existential Statements. This is why Universal Statements should be preferred. They just tell you more about the world! And since these may only be falsified, this is why falsification should be our main focus. The falsificationist attitude is logically better than the verificationist attitude.

@trader_gia The efficiency I see Europe and the sheer laziness is astounding. Hey I live next to something beautiful other people flock to. You aren’t allowed here. When I was in Spain I was willing to spend money and often they would close in front of my face to take a nap for 15 minutes

@allenanalysis Not shocking a tin foil hat clown thought free speech was dying. Strange that Elon limited speech during certain foreign elections but the tin foil hats are crickets on here about that.

@Sam_kuyp Wish we lived in that world. The same people year after year believe we find Atlantis in yet another location or grounding/earthing works or rock healing or astrology. They have heard plenty of counter arguments and still believe because of some philosophical or spiritual hangup

@Redux015 It's hard to see arguments convince people because it is usually not instantly. But a good argument can stick with someone for a long time.

@Sam_kuyp I’m not sure I even agree its critical arguments people need. Magical thinking usually requires some magical refutation to get them out of their tin foil hats. Rarely do I see arguments convince looneys. Its economic suffering, love loss, or love gained that does it usually.

@JasonDeRose5 @frogs4girls There really wasn't anything stupid about that at all. Especially trying to throw some astrophysicist cred in there. Just straight appeal to authority, the far left and far right just love create pretend authoritarians.

@cvpayne I also wonder how good people are at reading graphs and actually knowing the difference between different margins. As well as understand how gross margins increases with more “tech” revenue coming in.

I wonder if Amazon will also explain to the American public why its profit margin must increase every single year and how much Jeff Bezos's $500 million wedding will cost each customer. They are playing a dangerous political game.

@SaraEisen Should Nike never again use a billboard like this? How sensitive are you? Is the phrase never again never again supposed to be uttered? Never again is a common thing runners say after doing a marathon and they do it anyway. This sign makes total sense to a runner.

I am trying to figure out how exactly this happened… For now, this is what Nike is saying: “We did not mean any harm and apologize for any we caused. The London billboards were part of a broader campaign titled “Winning Isn’t Comfortable”, built on runners’ insights and designed to motivate runners to push past what they think is possible. A series of billboards with taglines such as “Remember why you signed up for this”, “This is bloody tough” and "Never again until next year” were placed along the route to inspire runners and the copy was based on common phrases used by runners.”
Arsen Ostrovsky@Ostrov_A

Seriously @Nike? You posted this massive billboard in London for the Marathon. I don’t believe for a second there was any ill malice, but please understand the concern with using the words ‘Never Again’, what they represent and why this was in poor taste.

@rubidoooo These numbers can’t be correct. I think there are tons of people that have multiple accounts. Apparently 1/3 of America uses twitter too which is also untrue. It is a lot of people but the numbers would be way lower if you just pulled people on the street in some anonymous way.
