Chris Hipkins has ruled out tolling the existing Auckland Harbour Bridge to help fund a second harbour crossing, effectively slashing potential project revenue in half. This reeks of the same reckless incompetence that defined Labour's Auckland light rail disaster which saw a whopping $228 million dollars of taxpayers' money flushed down the drain with not a single metre of track laid, while project costs ballooned from $14 billion to a staggering $29 billion. With Hipkins ruling out realistic funding options like tolling the existing bridge (which the Infrastructure Commission has modelled for viability), this has all the hallmarks of another Labour Party infrastructure catastrophe.
