France, 1980s onwards. The French eat more butter, more cheese, more cream, more rillettes, more confit, more pâté, and more saturated animal fat than almost any other nation in the developed world. They drink more red wine. They smoke more. They exercise less. They have, for decades, had among the lowest rates of cardiovascular disease in the developed world. The south-west, around Toulouse and Gascony, where duck fat is used the way olive oil is used in Italy, has the lowest heart disease rate in France. This is called the French Paradox. The term was coined in 1992 by the French epidemiologist Serge Renaud after a CBS 60 Minutes segment brought the data to American attention and caused an almost vertical spike in American red wine sales. It is called a paradox because the official dietary guidelines, based on the lipid hypothesis, said the French should be dying at rates comparable to the Americans, and they are not. Paradox, in science, is the word you reach for when your model is wrong and you are not ready to say so. If the French were eating an American diet and dying at an American rate, it would be called confirmation. They would be cited in every textbook. They are eating a French diet and living. The model is wrong. The finding stands.

One of the best things about Dark Sun, is that it's been completely forgotten about by Wizards of the Coast. It remains a shining artefact of how goods things were.

@DynamoNestico In my head I get it, and I don't think I've ever spent less then 10 going to the store (and know full well I'm the exception to that not the norm) but oof for some reason a table fee just rubs me the wrong way. I'd probably not go back unless I knew the owner well

All that. Strong of heart and righteous of soul. That is what you are playing. The paladin from the DND movie nailed that bit.

@CapArtLight1 @gerry_verge He wants to be a Paladin for the fantasy of it, not be given the 99 Trials of That Guy whenever he tries. He wants to challenge Evil, not be challenged by the other players who dislike Paladins. He wants to play the game, the rest of his group want him to regret his choices.

I want a D&D campaign where I play a classic Lawful Good (-y two shoes, even) Paladin in a group that doesn’t try to undermine me and a DM who doesn't make every encounter a moral quandary. For once, let me earnestly be a big damn hero.

@Blackmoor_Film @gerry_verge As a DM, I find it hard to find players that appreciate that bit as much as I do. Perhaps I should try running a VTT session or such. It's a a big internet, bound to be some persons out there that like what I run.

@Blackmoor_Film @gerry_verge Love high stakes. But not high power. A bit of Dr. Who; everybody dies in there? The current DnD trope of charging a 12" demon is annoying. To much of a Marvel Movie vibe. Monsters should be scary. No matter how skilled the sword arm, your mundane weapon can't hurt that demon.
