This racist rhetoric attacking immigrants—like calling Chinese and Indian immigrants “gangsters with laptops”—is disgusting. The type of hate only fuels anti-Asian violence, and we must reject it, push back on all attacks against immigrants, and defend birthright citizenship.

It’s my first week in Congress, and here’s the reality: Republicans aren’t focused on lowering your costs or delivering for working families. They’re focused on funding ICE’s chaos, expanding surveillance, and handouts to polluters. We must fight back for everyday people.

Over the past few years, I’ve been incredibly proud to see more and more progressive women serve in Congress. We’re fighting for working people — and we’re not stopping.

Earlier this week, I met with the New Jersey congressional delegation and @GovSherrillNJ to discuss how we can better support our state—from flood mitigation to the World Cup. I’m committed to bringing more resources home to New Jersey and lifting up working families.

Great to meet with students from Montclair State University in DC this week. They’re the future of our country, and I’m glad they had the chance to explore our nation’s capital. I’m committed to fighting for them and for students across the country.

We’ve seen ICE’s cruelty in our communities, on video, and across the country. We must hold ICE accountable and refuse to give them a blank check to continue their reign of terror.

I’m grateful to be appointed to the Committee on Homeland Security. This committee oversees everything from emergency management, border security, to transportation security. With the flooding our district faces and ICE’s overreach nationwide, I’m ready to get to work.
