Today, I announced three new Select Committees to study Education Freedom, PERS, and Voters’ Rights and to continue the work of the Capital and Metro Revitalization Select Committee named in 2024. The Mississippi House of Representatives has a strong track record of recognizing both challenges and opportunities within our state. We diligently study these issues, engage key stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, and cultivate widespread support to pass legislation that truly benefits Mississippians. Looking ahead, the House remains resolute in its pursuit of commonsense, conservative legislation, which is why you will see Education Freedom as the top priority in the House for the 2026 Legislative Session. We are committed to transforming the educational landscape in Mississippi to ensure that every child in our state has access to an education that caters to their unique needs and aspirations. A continued priority in the House is addressing the solvency of the Public Employees’ Retirement System. The House has proposed an annual dedicated stream of revenue for PERS for the last two years, and we will continue to evaluate opportunities that stabilize and secure our commitment to current and future state retirees. We will also be evaluating Voters’ Rights through early voting to boost participation and address barriers to suffrage for those who have served their time and desire to reengage with the community. Additionally, Mississippians have long requested a process for a ballot initiative to ensure they have a fair and accessible means of influencing state policy. Lastly, the Capital and Metro Revitalization Select Committee was incredibly successful in its work last Session, with five bills stemming from this committee becoming law. They will continue their efforts to improve our Capital City. After the conclusion of the 2024 Session, the House named four select committees that worked meticulously over the summer and fall, producing robust legislation for the 2025 Legislative Session. Once again, the House’s legislative priorities will be clear and informed from the start as we maintain our focus and energy on preparing for the 2026 Legislative Session.

Support has poured in for HB 1. Thank you to our state’s leading business champions, @MECStateChamber, @MSManufacturers, and @bipec, for applauding the House’s momentous effort to move the tax discussion to the forefront of the 2025 Legislative Session.

True story… He literally never even brought it up ever again. I waited for weeks, waiting for the shoe to drop. My father never even mentioned it again which was such a worse punishment than literally anything he could’ve done to me at the time. LOL

🚨 TRUMP: “Don Jr.s a little wild” SCHULZ: “He once told me he asked if he could have five friends over for a party and he ended up bringing 200. You showed up and told people to get the hell out. He spent the next 36 hours cleaning. Can you give him closure?” TRUMP: “No.” 😂💀

The fact our current administration has sent $3.8 Billion to Afghanistan is unacceptable. The fact this $$$ has been used to directly benefit and strengthen the Taliban is absolutely enraging. Funding our enemy with $Billions and leaving our borders open, hoping for the best…
Legend@realLegendAfg

The Inspector General has confirmed the truths we've brought to the American public through the @ShawnRyanShow. U.S. cash shipments directly benefit the Taliban. To confront this urgent issue, demand the swift passage of @RepTimBurchett’s H.R. 6586 in the Senate.

Mississippi’s revenue experts have raised the FY23 estimate to $7 Billion. We spent $5.8 Billion on government this year. Surely we can find room in this excess revenue to provide income tax relief to the working taxpayers of Mississippi.
Governor Tate Reeves@tatereeves

I heard Chairman @tlamar44 say this AM that the state’s revenue experts raised the revenue estimate to over $7 billion but the LG is refusing to call the official meeting. If true—this would be a radical escalation in the effort to stop tax cuts. I hope it is not true.

"Reducing the income tax simply makes Mississippi more attractive, it gets people back their hard-earned money, & it allows them to invest in businesses, and the reality is small businesses are the fabric of Mississippi. And NOW is the time for our leaders to do something bold."

With these numbers, it's no wonder why Governor @tatereeves, Speaker @PhilipGunnMS and most others in the #msleg @MSGOP want to give money back to the taxpayers instead of increasing the size and scope of state government...
Magnolia Tribune@magnoliatribune

With 4 months remaining in fiscal year, Mississippi revenues are up over estimates by $750 million. #msleg Mississippi collected $101 million, or nearly 32%, above the February budget estimate. yallpolitics.com/2022/03/07/wit…

Mississippians do better under the @MSHouseOfRep Tax Freedom Act. Ask your Senator to work with the House to eliminate the income tax, cut the grocery tax and provide real relief on car tags.
