@elonmusk I think about this all the time with mobile devices. When I’m at a stadium or concert I feel like I’m at a data center. I’m not sure why we don’t have micro transactions yet for people to rent out cycles on their phone.

@NETGEARhelp when are you rolling out a wider patch for the RBR50 so we can access the admin? I shouldn’t have to buy a support ticket on your buggy firmware update or factory reset.

@DanGrover I ended up picking a third option. Assessing if stress was a mirage. I read about Stoics and Buddhism.

Have you ever had to make a decision between "increase tolerance for stress" and "do less stressful stuff"? How did you make it?

The tech they built succeeded like wildfire, but they didn’t make that much money off of it: PCs (IBM) Java (Sun Microsystems) Docker (dotCloud/Docker) Any other good examples?

Wrapping presents is a lot like writing software. It can be beautiful, I can be ugly, improves with practice, needs large blocks of time, and in the end be deprecated to the trash.

@patrickc I’m sure you get this a lot but it’s worth a shot. What about offering a “round up” donation as an opt-in option for SAAS subscriptions where it benefits core OSS projects?

@chamath I think about #3 a lot and I keep coming back to the fundamentals of “greater good theory”. Is it lost on us? Cities voting blue is a indicator to me that this lives. For the rest, maybe greater good thinking is still there, but only for who look and talk like me.

Things I’m currently thinking about: 1. A plurality of Americans just gave coastal elites a big “Fuck You” when you see how many Hispanics, Blacks, Jewish voters went Trump all across the US. 2. The Democratic Party needs retooling. 3. How do we fix America?

Think about what we’ve just witnessed: 1. Four years of chaos, incompetence and bickering. 2. A pathetically managed pandemic that politicized everything. 3. Conspiracy theories that brought every cook out of the woodwork. 4. An economy in tatters.

I worked for both Netflix and Slack, wrote a book on programming, gave several acclaimed tech talks and built the profiling tool for a major frontend framework. I don't have a degree, nor do I apply to jobs that require one. Just take the requirement off.

I don't have a CS degree...or any degree. Some of our best engineers at GitHub never even graduated high school. But also, some of them had a BS, masters, or PhD in CS. Amazing programmers come from all backgrounds. Using formal education as a hiring filter is nonsense.

We're looking for a Firebase alternative to manage app/user-specific data. Leaning towards Django because of django-admin but is there something that's more managed? Features we need: - Low latency queries (replication across geos) - Simple admin UI to manage data - Simple db
