You turn on your VPN and your IP changes. It feels like you should be invisible, but some websites still know exactly where you are. Your IP is just one clue. Websites also look at your browser’s timezone (for example, "Asia/Kolkata" doesn’t match a German IP), your Accept-Language header (en-IN gives you away), and your DNS resolver, which is probably still set to your ISP’s servers back home instead of your VPN’s. One of the sneakiest trick is WebRTC. Your browser has a built-in feature for video calls that can fetch your real IP address at the operating system level, completely bypassing the VPN tunnel. A website can get it with just 10 lines of JavaScript. Some VPNs don’t block this by default. And if you’re logged in, it’s game over. Netflix, Google and Spotify don’t care about your IP address. They care about your account. Your registered country is stored in their database, not in your connection. Using a VPN while logged in means the VPN isn’t helping you at all. A VPN gives you a different postal address, but your timezone, language, DNS, WebRTC, browser fingerprint, and login details are still the same.

MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka says the studio was at serious risk of going bankrupt in 2012, which is when they started looking into being a bigger part of production committees. Otsuka used Yuri!!! on ICE as an example of how basic investments in production committees wasn't enough. He says that it was a massive hit, but MAPPA was in a position where it received the least profit despite shouldering many of the responsibilities "such as guaranteeing quality, fulfilling delivery obligations, and taking investment risks." He also talked about Chainsaw Man, which MAPPA fully funded. That endeavor exposed MAPPA’s inexperience in rights management. Despite success, Otsuka feared it could create the impression that anime studios struggled to take on projects with 100% sole funding. "I decided to take the lead in rights myself and review the executive structure and the system itself. I felt it was necessary to redesign from the very beginning, focusing not on what we sell, but on what we want to deliver.“ Otsuka also had high praise for the Chainsaw Man manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, describing it as embodying the reasons why he chose animation as his career.

So, as a hearing impaired person, fluent in Sign Language, I will EXPLAIN what is happening here. - The interpreter translates SPEECH, MUSIC orally. - You will notice, that once the singer starts to sing, he interprets the words with his hand signals. /1

Instead of deaf people just watching the actual artists perform, CBC puts a sign language interpreter on to perform air guitar & drum solos for them to watch along side of it. Whats going on in Canada? It’s a 24/7 nut house

MrBeast hired the actual voice actress behind Naruto to dub his videos in Japanese. Then signed a merch deal with the Naruto franchise. Then bought a money app for teenagers. Then tweeted, "I'm curious what's popping on Japanese YouTube," as if it just crossed his mind. He runs a company valued at $5 billion. It brought in around $500 million last year. And the wildest part: his YouTube channel actually loses money. The videos, the stunts, Beast Games on Amazon, all of it lost about $80 million in 2024, even though it made $250 million. What turned a profit was his chocolate bar brand, Feastables, which generated $20 million in revenue on $250 million in sales. The YouTube channel is basically one giant ad for the chocolate. So why Japan? A single YouTube viewer in Japan spends more money on the platform than a viewer in the US. Japan has 79 million YouTube users, compared to America's 253 million, but Japanese users generate $20 million in spending, versus $35 million in the US. A third of the people, more than half the spending. Advertisers pay a premium to reach them. Japan also has over 56,000 convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Lawson) packed into practically every city block. That's the same setup that made Feastables blow up in America through Walmart and 7-Eleven. Internal company documents name Asia as the next market to crack, pointing out that his YouTube reach has already made people aware of the brand without spending a cent on traditional ads. MrBeast has 473 million subscribers. Japan's biggest YouTuber, Junya, has 38 million subscribers. That's a 12-to-1 gap. And he's not planning to just show up with dubbed videos. In February 2026, he bought Step, a money app used by 7 million young people, so he can sell financial tools to the same fans who watch his videos and buy his chocolate. When Feastables bars show up in Japanese 7-Elevens, remember this tweet.

Zuckerberg's yacht once sailed 9,600 nautical miles, burned 676,800 liters of diesel, and waited two months in the South Pacific for him to show up. He never came. It turned around and went home. The vessel burns 1,165 gallons of diesel per hour at cruising speed. The carbon output of 630 cars running simultaneously. In nine months, it produced 5,300 tons of CO2, what 400 American households emit in an entire year. Meta's sustainability report pledges net zero across their value chain by 2030. Zuckerberg's personal fleet (there's a $30 million support vessel that follows the yacht everywhere carrying submarines, helicopters, and water toys) produced more emissions on that single empty round trip than most people will generate in a lifetime. The fuel tank holds 423,700 liters. A full fill costs about $230,000. Based on his 2024 wealth increase, Zuckerberg earns that in under 90 seconds. Net zero is a line item in someone else's budget. It always was.

Mark Zuckerberg, an outspoken critic of "man-made climate change", shows off his new $300 million, 287-foot mega yacht, powered by four gigantic diesel engines. Yet another stark reminder that Net Zero is only for the peasants

Pope Francis wrote about this quite beautifully in Our Father: “The poor guy goes away, finds no way out, and hangs himself. However, there is one thing that makes me think that the story of Judas does not end there. Maybe someone will think, ‘This pope is a heretic.’ Not at all! Go look at a specific medieval capital or column in the Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene in Vézelay, in Burgundy. The men of the Middle Ages did catechesis through architecture, sculptures, images. On one side of the capital is Judas after he hanged himself, but on the other is the Good Shepherd lifting him onto his shoulders and taking him with him. On the lips of the Good Shepherd is the hint of a smile that I would not call ironic, but somewhat shrewdly knowing. Behind my desk, I keep a photograph of this capital divided into two sections, because it helps me meditate. There are many ways to be ashamed; despair is one of them, but we must try to help the desperate so that they may find the true path of shame, and not travel the one that ends with Judas ... Shame is a grace.”

This take is stupid on its own but JJK does not cost 150k per episode - smaller studios with fewer animation cuts could cost that 15-10 years ago. Now to make an episode of a popular shonen show it takes 400-650k at least and it can cost more easily if the stuff are paid properly. Still Japan is one of the most affordable places to make 2d animation but all the talent are busy and booked for years in advance and it’s still shifting from a work for hire model (where the anime studio is “just” animating) to ownerships or at least participating in the adaptation IP (Mappa with Chainsaw man). On top of that the “lower” prices hinge on outsourcing background work to south east Asia and parts of animation to South Korea (while this is changing and Korea no longer being the secondary hub that can be “cost” effective).
That COMICBOOK Guy@Culture3ase

Fans are confused on why ‘INVINCIBLE’ has worse animation than ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ with 10x the animation budget. $150K animation vs. $2.5 Million animation

Evangelicals are partly to blame for the collapse of Middle Eastern Christianity. They are the biggest supporter of wars which destroy Christians. But it goes way deeper than that. They view Christians like Assyrians in Iraq as a pawn to expand their footprint as "authentic" Christians. They can be so brazen that they even set up local organizations & try to convert *Apostolic Christians* to *their* brand of American Christianity. Imagine destroying an Apostolic, Aramaic speaking Christian community which is 2000 years old. Then setting up an NGO to convert them to Megachurch Protestantism through bribery & handouts. Isn't that insane?

There is a passage in The Two Towers which is arguably among the most important across the books. Frodo and Sam are asleep outside the entrance to Shelob's lair when Smeagol sidles up to Frodo. Tolkien writes that anyone who saw him would have thought was just a very tired old hobbit. He is written in such affectionate terms here. It is clear that in this moment Smeagol was very close to embracing the Good. But Sam wakes up, assumes the worst about his intentions, and that's that. Smeagol was killed in that moment and Gollum was what remained. The movies could and should have included this scene. It would have added SO MUCH depth to the already deep on screen character of Smeagol/Gollum. We all wrestle with the good and evil in our own hearts. Not everyone wins that match. That is the lesson of Gollum in the books and movies alike.
