A CIA officer testified at a Senate hearing last week that the CIA’s scientific analysts determined that the COVID-19 pandemic started from a lab leak and that their scientific conclusions were hidden from Congress and the public in a coverup. This should have ignited a media inferno, but there was nothing. 11 weeks ago the signs at the “Trump House” in Escondido were attacked. Today, the homeowner was brutally assaulted and left in critical condition fighting for his life in the ICU. The home is well known in the community for its large Trump flags and pro-Trump displays. Police arrested a suspect nearby, but have not yet released a motive.

Yesterday I was at the casino playing PLO. The dealer, who I've known a long time and whose opinion I seek about things to watch, asked me what I thought about the furor over the forthcoming Nolan Odyssey. I responded that I understand the rationales, but when it comes to period pieces I'm looking for perfect authenticity, so Nolan's approach is not my cup of tea. "I asked a couple of friends the same question," he said. "They asked me what the Odyssey is."
The dealer is a smart guy in his mid-30s. There's every reason to think he has friends who are at least as well informed as most people in that generation. Sigh.

Last year I interviewed the mother of San Diego Islamic Center attacker Cain Clark after she contacted me through Instagram.
She said her son was mandated to take an Ethnic Studies class to graduate from @sdschools According to the mother, the first two weeks focused on “whiteness” and “white privilege.” She said Cain, who is mixed race with Indonesian heritage on his father’s side, felt uncomfortable in the class and believed it was teaching him to view himself and his white family members negatively.
I interviewed Cain through his mother. She said they asked if he could be excused from the class, but the school insisted he had to complete an Ethnic Studies course in order to graduate

Amy Biehl was a bright, compassionate 26-year-old American who went to South Africa in 1993 to help fight apartheid and support democracy.
While driving through a township near Cape Town, she was pulled from her car by a mob chanting “Kill the settler!” and “One settler, one bullet.”
She was stoned, beaten, and stabbed to death in a frenzied racial attack simply because she was White.
