Metacritic user score for Nolan’s The Odyssey just hit 5.8/10 183 ratings in and real people are calling it exactly what it is — a complete butchering of Greek history and mythology. Zero Greeks cast, the story disrespected, and modern woke nonsense forced in everywhere. Meanwhile critics gave it an 89 like it’s some masterpiece. But here’s the real joke: Rotten Tomatoes is sitting there with a fake 97% audience score. RT is so obviously rigged and manipulated it’s embarrassing. They’ll protect any Hollywood disaster while actual users on Metacritic are dragging this abomination.

Die Debatte über seine Glaubwürdigkeit dürfte damit erneut an Fahrt gewinnen.

Out of theater reactions: the most atrocious casting choices like Ellen Page, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Travis Scott, etc all have like 10 minutes of screen time combined and play very small roles in the overall story, which makes me think Nolan knew they were terrible castings and only picked them to hit the DEI qualifications for awards season. I thought Nolan’s non-linear style of storytelling would help this movie, as the epic is famously not told in chronological order. Unfortunately, it didn’t. The way he did it made it feel like we were just jumping from scene to scene instead of watching an interconnected story. It’s also obvious that Nolan has never directed an epic before, as the scale just feels… small. This is the ODYSSEY, it should feel like a grand story spanning vast distances and time like the Lord of the Rings. Instead, while they repeatedly inform you how so much time has passed and how so much distance has been traveled, I just didn’t feel it. Something about the way the travel scenes are shot and structured just didn’t properly convey the grand and treacherous distances being traveled or time it was taking to travel them, feeling more like an island hopping story where they just go from the cyclops island, to the pig island, to the 12 ft tall medieval knight island, to the cattle island, etc with Odysseus’s crew of background characters slowly whittling down with each new stop. Overall, I think Nolan, while still a great filmmaker, simply stepped too far outside of his comfort zone and got too high on his own hype, creating one of the first films I’ve seen from him that I feel didn’t live up to its potential.
