Matter for Civil Society Interest: The CIVICUS Report Studied the CIVICUS 2026 state of civil society report. I feel each and every NGO who feel or work for civil rights should read this report. It’s a well-crafted report, nothing emotional, very realistic and nothing in partisan politics. Nine sections, started with Overview: Resistance Against the Tide and ended with the section Gen Z Protests : New Resistance Rises. It is obscure to me that why Bangladesh Gen Z July 36 hardly highlighted. Rest of the seven sections are very interesting, Democracy: An Enduring Aspiration, Technology: Innovation Without Accountability, Global Governance: Power Politics Tests Global Rules, Conflict: Impunity Unchecked, Climate: Between Breakdown to Breakthrough, Migration: Cruelty As Policy, and Gender Rights : Rollback and Resistance. Formulation of title is so impressive that the second part says the reality. Two sections are so important from my own Bangladeshi perspective, we must do campaign to unhindered accountability of technology / ICT, greedy innovations of these ICT companies especially the social media addiction will spoil our new emerging generations. The finally, we have to invest in our Gen Z the youth. It is not on creating employment only but also democracy, freedom of information, diversity and equality, and internationalism. We urge especially our leaders in Asia Pacific, especially while we meet each year in December in Bangkok, in RHPW ie Regional Humanitarian Partnership Week to study the report, sensitize on the analysis and to organize all of us in this regard, for greater movement. @sssingh21 , @communitywsasia , @josephinealabi , @CIVICUSalliance , @ADRRN1, @MohammadAmad ,

No to branding TOXIC, enjoy CRITICSM to promote open culture Several in recent time I heard the term “toxic” from one of my from other country, networking friends, same the term I heard from other two international friends few month back. Later I realized they are in fact from such countries, which are in dictatorial rules or under a dictator for long time. And they hardly have history in their society with a tradition of a culture of tolerance to criticism and free flow of information. I realized, why I face problems in international level with some people of some countries. I also found some friend, keep far and don’t come in debate, they are from close society and from a close bought up culture, they are not habituated in open culture. I clearly understand what the difference with my society is, we have a long tradition of uprooting dictator, we always support free flow of information, promote criticism and learning culture, even in NGO and in networking. We never say, someone who are criticizing, he is toxic. In a society, where people brand each other toxic, mean you are discouraging a person not to criticize. Without criticism or tolerance and learning to the criticism a society, a person, a network, or an organization can does not ensure progression and development. When I was in island, establishing people organizations ie, organization of beneficiaries, having regular meetings with them, after some time, they started heavy criticism, even in one day, one of my senior colleagues cried. We feel we have succeeded. We did network among our NGOs, we have separated, but still we meet, we do hi hello and share, sometime take common position and do advocacy. We never say each other toxic or close a relation. Democracy starts from here, person to person, family to family, institution to institution and thus to a society and state, all above we / you have to build a society of accepting and tolerance to criticism, even in personal level, it is the very root of democratic society. Yesterday during Eid day, I pray in a popular mosque in our area, during Eid day, the mosque has decorated with a lot of good proverb and verses. One of the verses I liked much, "Accountability language may seem toxic, but its yield / results sweet." Rezaul Karim Chowdhury 22nd March 2026
