“Today We Die A Little” by Richard Askwith (@richardaskwith) is a great book about his life… I’ve read through it a couple of times.

September 19th is the birthday of Emil Zátopek, the Chech locomotive! Some would argue that he is the greatest distance runner of all time. After WW2 he lived in communist Chechoslovakia and popularized interval training. He is know for doing them in massive numbers (ie 40+ 400s per workout with multiple workouts per day). …and often in combat boots! He is the 1st human to break the 29 minute barrier in the 10k and is a 5x Olympic medalist: 1948 10000m gold! 1948 5000m silver! 1952 5000m gold! 1952 10000m gold! …and just for the fun of it: 1952 Marathon gold!!! His feat at the 1952 Olympics will likely never be topped.
