There are few words that can capture the respect, admiration & love that we hold for John Sherriffs. He was a fine, fine man & in our eyes, a Hall of Fame trainer. A friend, a confidant & our trainer- we, and many others, are better because we got to spend time around John(cont).

My wife Connie & I were married for 30 years. Two days ago she passed away. A remarkable woman who was a fantastic stage performer & recording artist for 35 years, co-founder of The Caring Place in Las Vegas that helps Cancer patients (like her), & a great mother & wife.

This happens every year. The Japanese come in and buy some of our best mares, taking them back to Japan. I respect their strategy. They protect their bloodlines. I’ve tried buying there myself, it’s nearly impossible to get access to their top pedigrees. I now own about 80 mares and constantly balance breeding to race, buying yearlings, and upgrading my broodmare band. But when 80% of the U.S. industry breeds to sell, our best mares keep leaving the country. Over time, this has weakened our breed - fewer foals, less durability, lower quality. Fasig and Keeneland make exporting easy, while The Jockey Club, “dedicated to the improvement of Thoroughbred breeding and racing,” has failed to protect American bloodlines for decades. 🤦‍♂️
