The mission: “Open up” China to more commerce with the US. It’s the language of 1990s-style engagement.

@Saganismm Untrue. Very few are shocked by logical inconsistencies and generalizing about intellectuals like this is unsound.

“Intellectuals are the kind of people who demand evidence and are shocked by logical inconsistencies and fallacies. They regard over-simplification as the original sin of the mind and have no use for the slogans, the unqualified assertions and the sweeping generalizations which are the propagandist’s stock in trade.” — Aldous Huxley

By the time Helmuth Hübener turned eight years old, Hitler had come to power and eliminated democratic freedoms. Within weeks of taking office, the Nazi regime issued the Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of the German People, suspending civil liberties like freedom of speech and assembly. Sixteen-year-old Hübener decided to wage his own information war against Hitler’s propaganda machine. He summarized BBC broadcasts and disseminated what he heard alongside his own scathing commentary on the Nazi regime. It was an incredibly dangerous idea; distributing anti-Nazi flyers was a treasonous activity. For months, the Gestapo investigated the anti-Hitler leaflets, but they had no leads on who was behind them. Unfortunately, as their operation expanded, so did the risk of exposure. In 1942, after a colleague betrayed Hübener, a court sentenced him to death by beheading.

We’ve had war in the Middle East, unpredictable tariffs, and stubborn inflation, among other headwinds—yet U.S. stock prices keep climbing. The S&P 500 has now recovered every Iran-related loss and is up more than 15 percent since late March. As Tyler Cowen notes here, the market is registering something the headlines often ignore: the deep, structural resilience of the American economy. Innovation, capital markets, and entrepreneurial momentum have a mind of their own!

How is it that stock prices still can be so high? thefp.com/p/stock-market…

Andy Schectman, a leading precious metal investor says the insider money is quietly moving. BofA's Hartnett tells investors to forget stocks and bonds, commodities are the best trade for the rest of the decade. BlackRock, just dropped the 60-40 portfolio and is rotating into gold miners, copper, uranium, and energy. Gundlach, the bond king, says 25% in precious metals isn't overweight.

Her name was Isabella Stroupe. She was 19. She loved books. Her family called her Bella. She was tied to a bed with a tow strap and tortured for months in an east Charlotte NC apartment. Multiple broken bones. St*b wounds. R*ped repeatedly. Her mother said she screamed and screamed when she found out. Thomaz Hamilton, a violent repeat offender is charged with first-degree m*rder and first-degree r*pe. Months. She was alive in there for months. Say her name. Isabella Stroupe. WE DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS.

@MilkRoadMacro I can understand doing it with other countries, but I don’t see how that makes any sense with the U.S. We’re at war. Why is it necessary or desirable to warn a country you are at war with?

But Griffin may not leave. A deal Hochul may have been struck where Griffin gets Hochul elected and in exchange she forces Mandami to resign. Griffin stays, a special election is called and NYC gets to reverse MANDAMI & the DEBLASIO DAMAGE in one move. Griffin will become an expressive NYC resident as he will be in NY more than half the year anyway to build the business. Hochul and the traditional Dem party sees this as the opportunity to remove the Social Dems from NYS and then other cities. It also ends AOC’s run for President. Schumer although a schmuck is onboard. It’s like ripping the weed out by the roots. Leaving a fresh garden with a : Win for Hochul Win for Griffin HUGE win for NYC NYS & USA.

Hochul: “They’ll never leave.” Mamdani: “They’ll never leave.” In NYC, there are 1,532 luxury units priced at $4 million and above actively on the market, with 86 new listings added just last week (Apr 25 – May 1). They’re leaving.

Amid the impact of Economic Fury, Iran’s currency has hit an all-time low. The Iranian people deserve a new era, which the corrupt and shambolic Iranian regime cannot provide. With their oil industry closing and their currency plummeting, it is past time for the Iranian regime to concede that the people of Iran deserve much better than the ruins of their current regime can provide.

@SecScottBessent They’ll never concede anything. They are fanatics. They are going to have to be forced. Hopefully by the Iranian people supported by other Arab states. And the US. And clandestinely, by Israel.

Israel is preparing mass trials for 350 terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre. A special facility near Jerusalem will be used. Many of the charges carry the death penalty. Are you in favor of Israel imposing the death penalty on terrorists?
