The goal is to make Sony change course, keep physical alive. For that we need to stay and voice our opinion. Leaving the platform entirely at this stage means one voice less that opposes their plans. It's a paradox, but for now, we need to stand our ground. Ultima ratio in 2028.

Nice to see #savestargate is still going strong, 2 months after the cancellation. Too bad @AmazonMGMStudio hasn't reconsidered yet but I still hope they will bring back Martin Gero's Stargate.

I progressively want @PlayStation to fall. I want them to experience what @XBOX felt in 2014. I know it won’t but I’ll feel good knowing that I didn’t contribute anything to help end ownership. I will always fight against it. If you’re in this hobby, you should be against this decision. If not, you’re simply a tourist in gaming and that’s fine. You’re okay with owning nothing and having no choice. Godspeed.

Why couldn't WorldCon host my #SaveStargate panel? Well had to make space for "Applied African SF" And "Celebrating Queer Characters in SF" And "Celebrating African Speculative Fiction" And "Building an Ecosystem for African Graphic Novels." I mean... let's not do something that might actually get attendees to show up. We have social engineering to do!

@xMBGx They benefit an enormous amount from brand inertia, audience loyalty, and incompetent direct competition. The core audience is clearly disenchanted, for a lot of reasons. I love PS5, but this generation undeniably feels incomplete. More than anything, it seems goodwill is gone.

Never forget that Xbox actually changed course in 2013 due to fan backlash PlayStation weaponized physical and put their fans to work And in the end, Sony told those same fans to pound salt If you still buy Playstation, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Foolish statement from Sony to acknowledge the backlash but remain stubborn as they underestimate the buying power that players hold. The decision to end physical disc production two years from now is anti-consumer and turns the PlayStation Store into a monopoly. If they continue this move with their next console, I wouldn't be surprised if sales underperform at launch. You can't reward and maintain consumer loyalty by limiting your product’s capabilities and then expect them to be obedient enough not to care.

It's been a while since I saw a company shoot themselves in the foot badly and Sony doing that with their stupid physical media phase out for PlayStation and stubbornly refusing to move after the backlash is just bewildering. I hope the blowback is harder than before.

For me, it isn't about boycotts. It's about buying what actually interests me. An expensive digital box tied to a single storefront just doesn't. I'll happily buy games on the hardware I already own for the next decade & beyond. I've got plenty of games to occupy me.

Physical media is what keeps me invested in consoles. If true physical games disappear I'll stop buying new console games & move to PC. I doubt I'll be the only one, which is why console makers still have an incentive to preserve physical media, among other reasons.
